Yayyy!!! So excited we've finally got a Korean chain bakery in A2 now! No more hour-long drives to Troy or Birmingham~
Swung by the store this morning around 10, and it had lots of customers already. The interior is bright and clean, and the pastries look absolutely yummy!
However due to the influx of customers on the grand opening day, things got a bit chaotic in the store...
I was initially directed to the end of the checkout queue by an employee. After queueing up and waiting in line for 15 mins, another employee approached me and asked me to leave the line, redirecting me to another checkout line.
After I left the line, I explained to the employee that I had already been waiting in the previous line for about 15 minutes. He then realized that I was the one in line for checkout and not a random customer still browsing in the store. Unfortunately, he couldn't get me back to my original spot as he had already asked other customers to queue up after instructing me to leave the line. :(
He apologized to me several times. I understand that opening days can be chaotic. But still a bit bummed I missed out on the opening event and the lunch bag. :( As I don't have the time to queue up again for another time.
Probably just not a good time. Will swing by again later soon :). Thanks for bringing TLJ to A2~!
UPDATE THIS REVIEW to reply to another comment indicating she/he was the witness of what happened this morning: I'm a bit unsure if we're referring to the same thing as I'm a bit confused about being mentioned as I'm 10 people ahead. There was just one other 1 guy and a group of girls (around four or five of them) behind me the whole time.
To clarify once again, I was initially directed to this "end of the line" near the front door showcase by two male employees when I entered the door.
At that moment, the two middle-aged male employees were chatting or interviewing with a group of people (one lady among this group wore a Hijab). I assumed they were employees, so I asked them where the line starts. One of the employees pointed me in this certain direction, and that's why I followed that path.
I understand the chaos of a grand opening, and I can completely relate to the situation as I mentioned in my original post. I'm sorry for your disappointment about the double-wrapped line causing confused customers to cut ahead of you, and I agree that the employees were doing their best.
However, my issue is more about different employees giving me conflicting or incorrect instructions. I was initially directed to line up near the front door showcase by one employee, and then another employee told me this is not the line.
I think this is just a small, unexpected issue on grand opening day. I gave 5 stars to the business and and I don't think this is something too serious. Hope you're enjoying some delicious pastries and drinks there, and have a fantastic...
Read moreI would rate this cafe an overall 3 stars. The pastry I chose was mediocre. I ordered the Blueberry Mont Blanc Croissant; it was a bit tough and not as soft and buttery as I prefer. The filling was pretty delicious and the fruit fresh. I ordered an Iced Lavender Latte as well. I didn't taste the lavender. However, the coffee itself was so-so; I wouldn't grab coffee from here on my way to work or anything but on the flip side, I noticed that most of the drinks on the menu were pretty low in calories ranging from 150cal to 350 cal. They also offered vegan options or dairy substitutes. They have some pretty interesting drinks. I would like to revisit just to try their Matcha Lavender Lemonade.
I didn't like that guest must open the pastry container and get their own treats. It's a bit unsanitary. Furthermore, the restrooms were out of toilet paper and tissue was on the ground. All of the trash cans in the cafe were overfilled. There were forks but no butter-knives; as a result, struggled to enjoy my pastry without getting food under my nails. The dining area wasn't clean and I noticed that guests were not washing their hands prior to opening the pastry counter; by the end of my experience, there were finger prints all over the glass.
When I arrived, there weren't many guest but once I began eating, a rush of people came into the cafe. However, there was a line of three people when I first got there. One register was open and there were 5 associates up front, only one of them was preparing orders and the other taking them. I ordered an Iced lavender latte. The female associate making my drink made a hot latte instead of iced. The male associate didn't specify. Nonetheless, she fixed my order with a little bit of...
Read moreThe bread is good, as standard across this store. Same in Chicago, NY, etc.
Anyway, while the baked goods are good, the fact that there was an option to add a tip on the tablet is outrageous. The Troy location doesn’t ask for tips. This is my first time visiting this new location, and first time at a Tous Les Jours that it asked me to tip. The tipping culture is getting ridiculous. The lowest tip option was 15%. Yup. I paid $35 for bread, and the tablet is asking me if I want to tip 15%. Sorry but this tipping culture is getting ridiculous. It’s one thing if it’s for dine in at a restaurant, but I’m literally walking in to buy bread and leaving.
As a customer, I’m serving myself and getting the bread and check out at the front. 🤦🏻♀️ The cashiers are doing 0 of the work besides checking me out, which is their job. So I declined the tip and paid.
The lady at the front asked if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes, but it wasn’t in my bag. I checked in the car and it wasn’t there, so I had to go back in and ask for it again, and she didn’t say anything. Like hello? Just stared and didn’t say sorry or anything. Another worker printed my receipt. It makes me wonder if I didn’t get my receipt because I didn’t tip.
I think the tips option should be removed, as it puts unnecessary pressure on the customers to tip when we are just buying bread...
