TL;DR, this resort is a nice place to stay, but the rooms are on the small side. The location is excellent! The staff are super nice and helpful. Excellent value for the price.
This was our first visit to the Okoboji area, and in the theme of 60s/70s hotels, this place is quaint and fits right in. The rooms, while clean, are on the small side, but for the price, you get 2 small bedrooms, a bathroom, and a small kitchenette. The hotel has a nice pool, access to a beach with a swimming area, and several docks for tying up your boat.
The location is awesome! And it is hard to beat at any price. The main street is just a couple of blocks away. There is a boat ramp across the street behind the hotel. Restaurants are within easy walking range, or just a few minutes driving.
Our room was literally feet from the lake, and the deck of the second floor gave us a nice covered area to hang out in the provided deck chairs. A charcoal grill was right around the corner (we saw several around). AC worked great and wasn't intrusive. One of the bedrooms had a ceiling fan. The resort was very low-key and quiet, but we were there just at the end of the season...
The kitchenette has a microwave, a medium-sized refrigerator, 2 burner stove top, and a sink. Dishware and some pots and pans were provided. They looked serviceable, but having to hand wash dishes, probably best to use paper plates...
The 2 queen beds fit into the rooms... barely. There was a small nightstand on one side (no room on the other...) The bathroom is basic but serviceable. The showers were nice.
While there, we rented a boat from Triggs Bay as it was the cheapest by a lot! Also, as we were staying on property, it was super convenient. The power boat was a nice 18' bow rider, water skis were provided, water toys were extra. Dock gas was not excessive, and for a 2 hour jaunt, mostly at full speed, we only burned about 6 gallons of gas.
The staff were super friendly and pleasant to deal with. Many of the guests we interacted with had been coming to Okoboji for decades and had stayed at Triggs Bay frequently, so it's an...
Read moreMy family and I have loved staying at the Triggs for 5 years in a row. It is a beautiful location to stay at. We just stayed there in June 2025, and I tried to book for July 2026 when we were told that we could no longer stay there. We were accused of leaving the room a disaster and our rooms smelling like cigarette smoke, we are a non-smoking family and had 3 toddlers staying with us. We were really hurt by these false accusations because over the last 5 years we have never had any complaints made against us. We were constantly cleaning the floors, taking the trash out and cleaning the dishes the full 4 days we were there. We were told the owner himself cleaned the rooms, yet when we called for an explanation, he said he would have the lady that cleaned the room give us a call back to explain how dirty it was. Even though the beds were left made in one of the apartments. I myself got on my knees and cleaned the floor with a napkin the first 2 days because we did not have a broom to clean up. If you decide to stay at Triggs Bay Resort, I recommend bringing your own cleaning supplies because the owner informed us that they only take 20 minutes to clean the rooms for the next guests. This time around, we felt the staff were not very friendly and neither the owner when we called for an explanation. We are very hurt because these claims are...
