Me and my daughter went to get perms. Loose spiral perms... Like wavy, ringlets. So the 2 girls that did our hair had never done a pun before and the instructor came by and kind of half ass gave them instructions and I told the instructor I wanted big ringlets. And she said, well, that just depends on what kind of curlers we have. So they go off and get their supplies, and they come back and they got these little rollers and I said, I don't want curls that small and the instructor came by and said, oh, it won't look like that on your hair. It'll be loose ringlets. So about 2 rows in I realized that the girl is wrapping the smallest amount possible of hair on each roller, and so I stopped her again, and I said, I don't want ringlets, this small like this is gonna look like tight poodle curls, and that's not what I want. Oh, so she went and got the instructor again came back. The instructor said, it's not gonna look like that.Your hair's too dry and processed and damaged for it to hold a curl. WHAT???? I stressed again.I do not want to look like a poodle and I said, it needs to be a light chemical solution because my hair is damaged and I want more hair on the rollers. The instructor said, well then the perm solution won't get through to the whole curl. The amount of hair that was going on each curler, was like a piece of yarn we're wrapped around the curler. That's it like that then. And I know that that chemical solution will seep through many, many, many more 2 more layers of higher than that, but they wouldn't do what I asked so Um, after sitting for nearly 4 hours they have the curlers in. A different instructor comes by and looks at 1 of the curls. And I said, oh, that's good, that's fine. I could tell it was curly, it didn't look over processed. I should just leave it like that. He said, no, we can't do that. We have to keep it on there, or else it's not going to hold the curl, and I said, but my hair is very damaged. It doesn't need to be on that long. And he said it'll be fine. I kid you not 30 minutes later. My hair is completely ruined completely like. It's falling out, it's spongy, it's tie all the way to the very scalp poodle curls. But the biggest issue is my hair is destroyed and on top of that. My hair was like a it's auburn, like a ginger color and the roots were darker because i'm a brunette, and it looks like they bleached my hair like all of my hair is a brighter orange and oh gosh. A long time ago I loved going there And they did a great job, and if they messed up, they had to fix it, but the new instructors don't make them do that, not that they could fix what they did to my hair but... Nobody said thank you. Nobody said, oh, I'm so sorry. Nobody said, well, let's try this or anything. They were just like bye.Have a nice day. And I almost forgot my daughter's curls. They're almost non-existent, so I paid a $120 for 2 perms. One completely destroyed my hair. And it's exactly like it looks exactly like the picture.I showed her that I did not want to look like three times and my daughters barely got a wave. It may seem like a great idea to save money, but just don't do it because they will...
Read moreDon’t waste your time or money here. And this is why I say that when I first applied to this school the Director made it sound like the best place ever, so hands on so educational, and to young girls of course this sounds great, if you have financial aid and parents are paying for it, but if you are like me and had to pay for everything out of pocket, it hits a little different. Before you say o well, this is just written by a bad student that didn’t complete the course, that could not be farther from the truth yes, I did complete the course I graduated with a 98% GPA and a 97% Attendance Rate. At first everything seems great, until you only get showed something one time and that’s it and hopefully you get it the first time because if you don’t, then o well you tube can show you I guess, because even if you ask you will not be shown again, especially if other students have already finished, you will get left behind. You are nowhere near prepared to work on clients when you come on the floor to take clients. And heaven help you if you ask for help from one of the instructors on the floor, you will be made fun of in front of clients, and humiliated, if you can actually get them away from their phones and out of the office to come and help you, but now before you start each client you are supposed to ask for an instructor to come over and help you get started. I did that always, because I had no idea what I was doing, then the instructor tells you it’s ok get started and I will be right over, and they never come, so you get started and then have to go find them again, and then that’s when the instructor takes you in the office and yells at you for messing that haircut up, and now they have to fix your mistake, but wait I asked them to come over and they did not but it’s still my fault anyway. After that, you get labeled as “one of those students,” which means you get even less help than before. So basically, if you don’t question them and do exactly what they say, this would be a great place, but if not, then maybe find someplace else that will support and educate you, and prepare you to be a hairstylist, not just another statistic that can pass a...
Read moreFirst of all, I rarely if ever leave a bad review. Bad days happen and we are all perfectly imperfect humans doing our best. My experience here was so overwhelming though and left me in tears and has been sitting on my heart for a few days so I thought it was worth putting it out here. Please note my experience had nothing to do with the student cutting my hair. She did the best she could in a stressful situation. While getting my haircut a student and an instructor had a big argument and were both yelling at eachother across the salon. The instructor walked away and left the building which seemed to leave only one instructor on site who was really busy and apparently not in a great mood herself as I heard several students say they were avoiding her office because she was in another mood. The person doing my hair shared my inspo picture with the instructor who was still there and she gave her some direction very quickly and walked away after less than a minute even though it was a new cut for the student and when she would go ask for help it took a great deal of time to get any help and any help given was quick and short before the instructor ran back to her office. Usually a haircut is self care for me and relaxing. While I knew the chances one takes going to a salon school, it wasn’t the first time I have gone to a school but it was the first time I sat in such a toxic environment. I left with a hair cut that didn’t quite match my inspo (she did the length but there were layers and such in inspo and with it being a new cut and her waiting so long for help we quickly ran through the two hours I set aside for this). I didn’t realize how overwhelming it all was until I got in my car and cried. The hairdresser who did my hair kindly offered to have me back and there’s no way I’d go back even though...
