My wife and I have been going to this particular art gallery in Asheville, NC for the past 10 years or so. They have lovely arts and crafted items that people can purchase from several great artists. I had been completely satisfied with our experience at this art gallery until yesterday, (July 4th, 2022)
This was my wife and I's last stop until heading home to Wilmington, NC. We had walked around the gallery for approximately 25-30 minutes picking out gifts for our family to take home, as we always do. Anyway, as my wife had two items in her hands at the bottom of the staircase, the door attandent lady says, "We are now closed for they day. Please leave." We told her we just had to pay for the two items and she replied, "You can come back tomorrow to purchase those items, the cash register tills are being counted already." She then, allegedly, calls the register to see if they can ring us up and they said no. I walked out of the door without saying anything but my wife told the lady, "That was very rude of you." And we left.
I do not know if there was something that the lady or the other workers didn't like about me and my wife? I was wearing an American Flag Retro Rifle button down shirt. I have never been treated like this here, or anywhere else for that matter. Nobody even bothered to tell us that they were about to close. I worked retail for over 5 years and never thought of treating a customer like we were treated. I would suggest that the New Morning Gallery work on their southern hospitality and less on kicking customers out of your...
Read moreYay, they are back! We attended the champagne reception for the reopening, and bought three or four pieces. As others have noted, this is an expansive place, rooms open into rooms, which open into other rooms. And it’s on more than one floor. It’s really a very large gallery. But the thing I love is that they have something for every taste and budget, all made by local artists, or at least Appalachian artists. If you were looking to spend under $20, you certainly can find a beautiful handmade spoon or another smaller treasure. Or perhaps one of their posters from a past craft fair. And if you’re looking for a signature piece of furniture, crafted by a local artist, they certainly have those pieces as well. Plus glassware and Paintings and fiber arts. It’s just explosively large. Also, they do have something for every taste, in that some of the pieces are whimsical while others carry a more serious tone.
Lastly, they are always getting new inventory, so it is helpful to go back and see what pieces have arrived.
Also, even though the place is large, it still feels intimate. The rooms are set up somewhat like salons, so they each...
Read moreI was walking by this place and there were some cute things out front that I was taking pictures of. I went in and couldn't believe my eyes; the store is so fascinating that it is hard to explain and properly describe This is more like a super-cool art gallery than a store (tho, it IS a store with everything for sale). There were so many cute, beautiful, fascinating things to look at and buy. It is a fantastic place to buy a really unique gift for someone. Each item was more artistic than the next. I thought I was done, then noticed a stairway up. Well, up there are even more things to see. They have everything from full bedroom sets, furniture, cool desks, end tables, glasswares (the spaceman dishes were the BEST!) - everything you can imagine; I can't even name it all. And, the jewelry in the glass cases is beyond unique and gorgeous.
Even if you are are not looking to buy something, I highly recommend this store. You will think you are in an amazing artists' colony. I really enjoyed browsing through this beautiful place. Oh, and the people who work there -...
