Asaka Japanese Cuisine — Restaurant in Asheville

Look, the truth is, when you pull up here you WILL NOT be impressed. It looks like a run down Cluck N Bell that Walter White is selling his blue crystal out of. HOWEVER, the cooks and servers are amazing! Definitely a place that personifies the phrase "dont judge a book by its cover." I've been going here to eat for about 5 years. The food is consistent, it's always great. The people are always nice, friendly, and working their butts off. They cook your food and have it to you within minutes. I absolutely love the drive through feature with a traditional Chinese takeout menu. I have nothing bad to say, I even love the atmosphere but I know most would be put off by it. I hope to see them stick around and always improving...

From out of town, and wanted to try this place since it was close by and stayed open later. It looked like other places we had been to where you walk up to the counter, order, and they bring it to you. Not here though. They have you go sit down, bring you menus, and you order from that. OK fine. But people were walking in off the street and ordering their food to go and getting it before we got ours. We had to wait at least 10 mins while to go orders were 5 mins max. Once we got our food, the chicken tasted like it had been boiled, then put on the grill. The rice was dry and tasted old. The sweet carrots were the highlight of the meal. We got a ton. This rating is only getting 2 stars for service...

Usually when I go there the food is delicious, but pretty expensive for the portions of meat they actually give you (over portions of rice to meat) and a pretty long wait. But the last couple times I went the food smelled like it was rotten or old or set out for days. And the rice was mushy and slimey. Very repulsing... When It comes to Service, Ordering Carry Out/ To Go over the phone, the staff is grumpy, easily agitated, not super friendly. Atmosphere- when entering the restaurant it's gloomy and out dated, and looks to be dirty... and the staff ignored me when trying to get my order.... I used to love Asaka, but not sure if I'd go back after the disappointment the last...
