Our stay was proceeded by research on my part, trying to ensure I knew what we were getting with "4 stars". I booked the king suite for two nights and then downloaded the app after my confirmation and time to check-in. I was able to check-in online and set my check in time and the room was ready when we arrived about a hour after that set time. The lobby was busy and we somehow missed the front desk, but then were greeted by a very helpful staff member. She recommended restaurants and talked about some offerings of the hotel. I had requested online any 'upgrade' they would have to offer, trying to make sure it was on par with the trip I had booked for our first outing after several years without the kids. When I mentioned this 'upgrade' at check-in, she mentioned they had already upgraded us from the 'manor house' to the main house. I didn't understand at the time, but that enabled us to remain in the same building as the restaurant and bar and lobby, and now we think this would be a requirement next time we stay. The room did not disappoint, with great space and a corner room, we were welcomed with a wall of windows, generous storage, and the dream bathroom with a shower and soaking tub. We joked about the possibly 'too intimate' glass toilet door, but overall the room was the highlight of our stay. The restaurant Red Stag seemed hyped up, but I made reservations a few weeks prior. The first night we were led back to the backroom for our table for two, and although the intent was good, the delivery of ambiance from that dark back room was lacking. The music seemed too quiet, and only 2 other tables were being used, so it would seem we could all have one conversation if we gave any effort. We tried to have a quiet conversation, but when everyone is making effort to be quiet it just gives more attention to the loud silence. We left early the first night, after the best food we have shared in our marriage. Then the next morning I requested room service for breakfast, and I was told there was a 'special' menu for this, and I opted to just order the food and pick it up at Red Stag. Seems like for $10 someone could have taken my brown sack breakfast up 3 floors to our room, but the food was decent for breakfast. The second day we ate lunch there, and dinner again, but this time we sat directly at the bar and our food experience was perfect each time. We visited downtown and the Biltmore, and staying here made it easy to come and go from both areas....
Read moreThe feel of a cozy lodge with the service of a high-end hotel and southern hospitality
Walking through the doors of the Grand Bohemian is like walking through time and space to a Medieval lodge in a European countryside. The stone and carved wood interiors are paired with leather and velvet furnishings around an impressive fireplace. With several comfy places to curl up, I spent plenty of time with a barrel aged Old Fashioned in one hand and a book in the other as I sat with friends or my husband in the foyer. It is not often that the hotel lobby feels so cozy as to beckon you out of your room and into the space as a retreat!
The room was very comfortable with a pass-thru tub large enough for two and comfy enough for one. The dimmable lights make it easy to set the mood you want in your room at any time and the bushes and trees outside the window provided the perfect dappled sunlight into the room while providing privacy from the street.
Take the time to walk the floors of each building to appreciate art displayed throughout the hotel - it is like staying in an art gallery or museum. Every nook has art to delight in!
The staff were kind and helpful and seemed to treat good service as just the way they do things rather than a chore. We never felt the staff were "working" to be kind, whether it was a busy bartender or a maintenance person rushing to their next issue. That is the southern hospitality I know from my youth - that helping others is the best part of days or jobs.
The food at the Red Stag Grill was above expectations. Unique dishes with familiar flavors that both comforted and surprised the palate. The wine selection has an option for anyone, from easy drinking to an impressive list of interesting selections. We found a malbec that used Argentine grapes with a California winery that pleased everyone at in our 6-person party. For cocktails, I highly recommend the barrel aged Old Fashioned to complement your surroundings.
The only downsides: the hotel is surrounded by busy streets so you can't avoid the noise of the traffic. I think this hotel would be better served by ditching the spa to add a pool and hot tub. Honestly, the spa services offered could be provided in-room to allow for a pool space. Also, though you can walk through Biltmore Village, you must have a car or car service to visit...
Read moreI’ve stayed at countless hotels around the world, but nothing compares to this experience. From start to finish, it was simply exceptional—easily the best I’ve ever had.||When I arrived, I was feeling a bit down. My fiancé had to cancel last-minute, and I wasn’t sure how the weekend would turn out. But the moment I walked through the doors, everything changed. I was welcomed like family.||Angela and Michael greeted me with warm smiles and a glass of champagne, immediately making me feel at home. They took a genuine interest in my plans for the weekend and helped me map out an incredible itinerary. When I inquired about Uber options, they didn’t hesitate to offer the hotel’s complimentary car service.||The valet team—Nathan, Stazia, and Austin—were absolute gems. They happily drove me to and from my destinations in a beautiful courtesy vehicle, always arriving promptly with a smile. Their kindness and attentiveness truly stood out.||Each morning, Angela welcomed me by name and made sure I had everything I needed for the day. Jayne Ellen greeted me in the breakfast area with just as much warmth, setting the tone for another perfect day.||And then there was Andy. On Sunday morning, I had a wonderful conversation with him—only to discover he was the General Manager! A GM who’s actively engaging with guests and making personal connections is rare, and it made me feel truly valued.||The staff alone are worth the visit—this team is simply WOW—but the hotel itself is stunning. The property is beautifully designed, with a luxurious resort feel, yet it’s only a short 5-10 minute drive to downtown Asheville. Even better, it’s right across the street from a charming village with restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques all within walking distance.||Though I arrived feeling disappointed to be alone, I left feeling like a celebrity who had just experienced the perfect weekend. Each night, returning to the hotel felt like coming home to family. Without a doubt, this has become my new favorite...
