When dealing with the emotionally-charged stress that accompanies the end of life for a loved one, many of us are fortunate enough to encounter sensitive, caring, compassionate and competent professionals to help us through the maze of decisions. Unfortunately, the people running Crest Lawn Memorial Park are the exact OPPOSITE of that.
After my mother passed, they made our lives more difficult by, as far as I can figure, simple incompetence and laziness. Simply getting an email or phone call returned required incredible persistence, and sometimes even that was inadequate. My brother had to make multiple visits to the property to move along the process of getting my mother's headstone ordered and placed. All in all, it took us about a month short of TWO YEARS from the date she passed to get the marker in the ground.
Unlike businesses that are easy to "fire" when they do a terrible job, once your loved ones are buried at Crest Lawn you're not going anywhere, and they obviously know that. Alas, we were stuck with them since my father and grandparents are also buried there. No matter how low I had set my expectations for their service, they continually found a way to limbo underneath that. If you have the choice, DO NOT even CONSIDER buying a plot here, and if you have an unused one, sell it and buy...
ย ย ย Read moreI have lived within 2 miles of this historic cemetery for well over 35 years and never really saw it until my dear neighbors had pity on this old soul & took me to the flyover by the Thunderbirds & Blue Angels earlier this month. And what a view we had! The very highest point overlooking downtown Atlanta is right here in my own backyard and I never knew it. Shame on me. Itโs where Shermanโs encampment had the perfect lookout for the burning of Atlanta during the Civil War! While awaiting the flyover, I walked around the gravesites nearby. I believe we must have been in a WWII section (which Iโm always interested in sine my Dad was a fighter pilot in Europe during that war) as I saw most gravesites were marked with that. But I really canโt wait to go back and explore. I had never known so many sections of this cemetery even existed until we were driving up one of the many entrance roads to get to the highest most point. Itโs an absolutely amazing, beautiful place that I hope I can bring my grand nieces and nephews (and my cousin, Anne) to some day to explore the...
ย ย ย Read moreOn the two year anniversary of my Motherโs death my sister and I gasped when we saw our parents grave, the graves of longtime family friends, and others buried in the area called the Rose Garden of Crest Lawn Cemetery. This is not the first, but the fifth time we have been heartbroken and disappointed about how our loved oneโs graves are NOT cared forโฆVisible tractor marks, broken grave markers, headstones moved off their base, fire ant hills, etc. You expect at the least, general lawn maintenance from the cemetery your parents are buried in. And when you bring an issue to their attention you also expect them to be apologetic and make things right. However, every call that is made we are given excuses that itโs a change management issue. So, to whoever is looking at buying a plot at Crest Lawn, I donโt recommend it. To those who own/manage Crest Lawn, it is your responsibility to do better by the families who entrust you with the care of...
