This is my favorite Mexican restaurant pretty much ever. Some say it's tex-mex, but it's more than that. It's simply their Mexican. I keep trying to find other places in other cities, San Diego's Old Towne, Austin, TX, with good Mexican and enchilada sauce as exceptional as at Nuevo Laredo, and I just can't. I've all but given up. (Have not tried San Antonio though, and do want to). A simple item like Cheese Enchiladas is just over the top great. It's that darn enchilada sauce. I also remember having their potato and chorizo enchiladas which were fantastic. A lobster enchilada once, which was great. But I always go back to their cheese enchiladas, they are just too perfect. My understanding is that they grow all their own spices, much of their own produce, and the flavor of their sauces, dips, salsas are SUPER fresh with unmatchable flavor in most dishes I've tried, IMO. Their Molé sauce is excellent, but again, I go back to their enchilada sauce. It's to cry for. This is not canned food reheated. It's also not one of the countless Mexican restaurants which serve the same menu and are pretty much a chain under various different names. This is NOT that. It's been uniquely in its position in Atlanta for several decades and stays busy with locals and those who know. I have nothing against their service to not give them a 5, but there is often a wait to get a table, because they are busy and loved. They manage it well though. Their margaritas are quite good (especially by the pitcher), but there high point is the food. Refried beans, rice, are excellent, all of it, is just what you hope for. The place is not fancy, but it's colorful, festive and has a fun feel to it. (See their photo on their page). It's not commercial feeling at all. I never travel to Atlanta and skip Nuevo Laredo. My advise is that you go early though. I've really never seen it empty, even in the afternoons. Allow extra time to get a table. Peak diner out the wait often goes out into the parking lot — which is when locals order a pitcher while they wait outside, and they handle crowds efficiently. This is the local favorite which holds up and you pine to go back there whenever you can. It is SO worth a...
Read moreBeing a foodie and from the West Coast I really wanted this place to be a great hit for Mexican food.
First, the Food: had the steak fajitas, and my date had the chicken enchiladas. Ok, the Fajitas came out hot and sizzling smelled wonderfull but as soon as I tasted the first bite it was all over. Not marinated or seasoned at all. Which is a big thumbs down from the great authentic Mexican restaurants on the West Coast. The meat was tender and they didn't skimp on the portion size which was good. I ALSO, and glad I did, request thier green sauce to go over the meat. Don't know why they don't offer the green sauces with the fajitas?? Thebgreen sauce saved the dish and definitely kicked it up a couple of notches. The food is fresh and the chips and salsas are good. Overall on my dish it was good but not close to the authentic Mexican dishes I've become accustomed too. It's a fight to find a great authentic Mexican restaurant in Georgia LOL
Same was said about the chicken enchiladas was just ok nothing really special.
The Drinks: Yes, they are the bomb and highly recommend the Margaritas or the Mexican Mule. Strong and tasty. Bar tender knows his stuff. Not the weak drinks you get your money's worth there.
Service: Our server was attentive but just a matter of fact. Not really too friendly but it was a little crowded. I think she could've been a little more friendlier.
Atmosphere: pretty cool spot for a house right off the main road. Parking is a pain but I managed to squeeze in the front by the dumpster and to the right lol So beware of that. The house and basement seating seating is pretty cool.
Overall, it was OK coming from areas were you get great authentic Mexican food you get use to some great food. This place is worth a visit if your just looking for a good Mexican meal. I am still on my quest to find a great Authentic Mexican...
Read moreAfter reading a long reply by the owner, few things I found are If they concerned about the safty, they should not allow to sit in the bar If they don’t have enough staff to serve tables, they should consider to take reservation rather than making people wait outside average 30+minutes with no air conditioner Even some people order food and eat at the bar without waiting for getting a table. Because of them it gets even slower A lot of pickup orders; staffs are busy to take are them and table serving gets slower. Most of people including us leaving more than 20% of tip even for food pickup. This can be another reason why they don’t mind the table serving slow.
Tell me if I am wrong. I have been there three times for last one month and these are all what I saw & experienced.
We all understand local business owners are having difficult time under the pandemic. Most of people including myself try to leave more tips and try not to complain about the service. Nuevo Laredo Cantina is one of my family’s favorite place and we were excited about going back after vaccination. It used to be around $40 for two people but it has been $80 for dining now three times in a row since we didn’t want to neither wait outside sweating nor keeping a seat for about an hour with one drink in the bar.
You might think about how many loyal customers are disappointed and give up going back. It was not a pleasant experience at all.

It used to be a better place with authentic food. Now it seems they are intentionally make the waiting long to make people to spend more money in the bar while waiting and paying for chips.
You see tables are all empty but waiting area and bar are full like a club and sitting next each other. Very disappointed by the owner’s strategy and the way they treat...
