I’ve hesitated to come dine in because they are still fairly new, but with the holidays approaching I needed to find the best tamales in Atlanta. This place is it! Eleven flavors daily first come first serve.. no one in the city can even claim 3 flavors daily. Also, they celebrate Day of the Dead so that’s one key indicator that they not only serve REAL Mexican food but observe & preserve the traditions of Mexico as well. The decor was very tasteful not tacky and very beautiful. You can tell the owners dedicated time and passion into this holiday. Back to the food, the tamales 🫔 were sooo good and the tacos with hand made tortillas were fresh. The menu is actually very big and will take time to try everything. The servers were amazing, Hailey and Yari were super nice and attentive. I think what I appreciated the most is when a manager takes the time to visit a guests table and introduce themselves and checks up on you. I got to meet the manager and learned so much about the history of La Mixteca. I’m proud to support a local family business. Last, I’m excited for the breakfast menu. No one else on Chattahoochee Ave is open at 6am serving hot breakfast. We are so lucky to have such a good Mexican restaurant in our area given the high closures we’ve had recently & prices are pretty cheap and average compared to Chicheria...
Read moreI was excited when I saw they had vegetarian tamale options and to see they don't use lard. I was disappointed they didn't have the black bean tamale, especially since I drove 45 minutes to try this place on a Saturday afternoon. I'm giving it a 4 based on hard rice and no side toppings offered With the plate (not as additional charge). Growing up between Cali and Mexico, our bean plates and tamales always came with 'offered toppings' such as the basic tomato lettuce/or cabbage and onion. The beans were good, the rajas tamale was good, both salsas were good but the rice was a little lacking in taste with many hard grain pieces. The portion size for beans and rice were also small. The horchata was the best I've had since moving from Cali 12 years ago. The small cup size however was $5 which seemed overpriced for that size. The Rosas tamales wasn't my favorite. It had a bitter after taste, but that could have just been me. The workers were great. I wouldn't say I'd go out of my way again to visit again, but I may pop in to try the black bean if I'm...
Read moreThe tamales do taste good, but they are a little pricey, the beans have a nice flavor, but they are smashed a little bit too much, they have the consistency of baby food and the rice has no flavor at all. Today, I ran in a got an order to go because I too busy to stay, which I normally do, it was my 3rd and final visit . I was charged to surcharge for it to go order, which I do not agree with. I know the response will be." It's to cover the cost of the to go carton" but that's ridiculous, because I had them not put cheese on my beans, which saved you money and I did not sit there and eat and dirty up a table and utensils. Therefore, saving you time and money to have to clean up after me. I know this is probably irrelevant, but I drive by there several times a week and I notice the place is not too busy, it's the little things that will drive your customers to your competition. There are alternatives in the city as...
