Today my 7 year old son and I visited Crystal Caves. We enjoyed the mini golf course. They do not have windmills and other distractors, but the holes were challenging, using a lot of elevation changes, rocks, and turns to create difficulty. The landscaping was pleasant with many flowering shrubs and plants throughout the 18 holes. The two holes that are inside a cave were a big hit! The holes that were closer to the road were a bit noisy, but that is not the fault of Crystal Caves.
The grounds were very clean and we saw employees walking around to make sure any trash, etc was picked up. Everyone was very helpful when we were confused about how to access equipment and tokens for the batting cages and about which batting cages to use for a small batter. I have never used a batting cage in my life, so the advice was very appreciated.
The ice cream was great too and they have an actual Slush Puppy brand slush machine.
Yes, it is cash only, but this was made very clear throughout the website and the grounds. I came prepared with cash, but they do have an ATM on site. We bought a "fun pass" for my son for $25 and felt it was a good deal. It included a round of mini golf, 7 tokens for the batting cages (there are other options as well) and a regular size ice cream, which was pretty big. I tacked on an additional round of mini golf for myself and we had ourselves a time!
The location is easy to find and...
Read moreTook two of the grandchildren there for an end of summer game. $42 for four, cash only. There was a sign that there was an ATM inside. We scraped together the cash. Had an enjoyable game but the property is in need of renovation. There were signs of broken things being removed but never replaced. Areas were patched but not painted. There was one dismantled game area that looked totally abandoned. Another piece of equipment was wrapped up in a tarp. We were going for dinner so we did not think about ice cream but that was not impressive on previous visits. Being one of the few miniature golf spots in Central Mass, I wish it was more inviting.
In response to Crystal Caves I could not figure out what it was that had been removed. It was a small concrete pit with cut off pieces of fencing around it and vegetation growing up in the cracks of cement. It wasn't a hazard. It just looked abandoned. It was between the golf course and the entrance/exit. Patching was on the elevated cement "mountain." A few ornamental fixtures around the course had been partially removed. One was a copper or brass non working faucet or lamp? Sorry I don't remember exactly what. We had fun and have been going occasionally since Crystal Caves opened. It just looked in need of a refresh. I love ice cream but am fussy. I just know the last time I was there it was OK but I was not...
Read moreI brought two little underprivileged girls that I mentor there in June. We were told after paying an extreme amount of money that the water pumps were broken therefore no water was in the empty ponds. That is a huge reason I even bring my own grandsons there because of the atmosphere. The whole experience was definitely affected by this and I feel they should not be charging what they currently do. Should have been $6.25, not $12.50 per person. I wish I had just asked for my money back after finding out about this. I used to take my grandsons there numerous times per year… Very, very disappointing to say the least. Crystal Caves responded to my review stating it was $11.50 per person, when in fact, I was charged $12.50 each. I believe the price per person last year was $10. Charging $1.50 or $2.50 more than the previous year is unacceptable due to the condition of the park. The atmosphere of the park is dark and sparse and to charge what they do is despicable. Not everyone who goes to play mini golf checks a website ahead of time. The fact of this particular matter is the cashier who accepted my money never once told us about the...
