Sunset Oaks Framing and Art Gallery — Attraction in Auburn

A special thank you also to Sunset Oaks Framing and Art Gallery who recently spent a significant amount of time and energy researching and putting together this shadow box for Jordan Maurer and his dad, Mike Maurer. The box contains the World War II uniform and medals belonging to Jordan’s grandfather and Mike’s father, Martin Maurer (January 19, 2020 – December 20, 2016). Martin joined the Army in 1940, and quickly moved through the ranks to the Army Air Corps where he was promoted to officer in the 15th Air Force 374th Bomb Squadron stationed in Europe. He bravely served his country leading thirty-five aerial combat missions earning him the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters and three battle participation stars. Phil at Sunset Oaks did a significant amount of research and made a number of calls to the Auburn Veterans Memorial Hall to determine the appropriate location for the medals and patches on the uniform. A very special piece that will be cherished by the Maurer family...
