It was a rainy day and my family decided to stop by. We didn't expect too much, especially for my 1.5 year old, but were pleasantly surprised! First, it was free! The staff/volunteers (?) were friendly and knowledgeable. It was clean and exhibits (on local WA history) seemed decently maintained (a few things needed some light TLC). The biggest surprise was the play/immersive sections for kids; my toddler loved it! It gave myself and my husband a chance to read through the history while our son played. Definitely coming back and bringing others!

Fantastic museum with a focus on the local valley. The exhibits informative, well lit and interesting. There are several walk through exhibits and these were my favorite. The train caboose was especially fun. There was also a beautiful photo exhibit when I was there, in a separate wing. After having visited, I feel like I have a much better understanding and appreciation for the White River Valley and its history.

Slaughter is renamed Auburn February 21, 1893 an act of the legislature Changes the name to Auburn. Originally intended to remember Lt. William A. Slaughter (d.1856) Who was killed in the Indian War of 1856 near the town site, the name is considered by both old and new residents as somewhat embarrassing. A runner from a local hotel met trains with a cry of, ''This way to the Slaughter House!''

We have really enjoyed this south end treasure. It is a small museum, however the exhibits are done very well and we visit at least 3 to 4 times a year for their rotating exhibits.

The staff is extremely friendly, your ticket is interactive (you will need to hunt for your assigned pioneer as you go about your tour), and they have a huge caboose and a small replica of town in the building. Lots of fun for littles to play pretend.

They do have free admission once a month. It will be listed on their website. We've happened to visit on that day once or twice and were surprised by how few people were there to take...

This is a fascinating place of the local history for the Auburn area. Apparently the White River flew north and there was a small Green River section in the south until 1920s. And the White River changed the direction to Tacoma side. After that the White River in the north became known as Green River. Another piece of interesting story was that Auburn was the hops capital of the world. The museum had a very friendly and helpful staff. The displays were well organized and fascinating. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit. ...
