My husband and I have been a regular customers at this restaurant and we have liked the food for the most part. My husband ordered his usual and I wanted to try something different so I asked the owner (who typically takes the orders) if he had any recommendations from the menu. He rudely told me that he was too busy and that I needed to either pick something or he could come later. Perplexed by his response, I asked him to come back later.
Prior to that, he had just taken an order from a couple sitting next to us and he was literally walking away from them mid-sentence and cutting them off before they completed their order, as if he was being bothered. We later overheard this customer tell the person that he was with that it seemed as though the owner did not want to take their whole order, and he was right.
I thought about how rudely he treated them and how rudely he responded to me and decided that I was not going to order anything. He came back and I told him I was not ordering anything and I told him I was surprised that he could not spare and extra 2 minutes to make a recommendation from the menu for his customer. He said "ok" and immediately walked away with no apology or anything that gave me a sense that he cared about his customers needs. My husband followed him and told him to cancel his order and again his response was "ok" in an "I don't care" manner.
You may put out good dishes but when the customer service piece is lacking, that puts people off. It's truly not even about the money that he will not be getting from us as his now former regular customers but it's about how the owner left me feeling due to his rude responses. If you are too busy to attend to your customers, why not hire a part-time server that will attend to customers in a way that leaves them feeling valued? I am extremely disappointed and have never written a negative review for any restaurant. We have tried to support him as a local mom and pop restaurant but unfortunately, that comes to a close. That being said, we will not be returning to this restaurant again. I do hope that the owner can read this comment and take it to heart if he cares about keeping his...
Read moreMy wife and I have been eating out here for years. We love Thai food and order exclusively from Koong Thing when they are open. But, sometimes we get a craving for it on Sunday when Koong Thong is closed, so that’s when we try different Thai restaurants. No place has curry that is even close to how good Koong Thongs is. We’ve eaten at Koong Thong three times in one week before. My wife and I both love the red chicken curry and beef pad se ew. I sometimes get prawn yellow curry.
I tried curry from a different Thai restaurant today and only ate half before I just wanted to pour it down the drain.
The only down side to Koong Thong is that it’s not always consistent. I (once) received yellow curry that was watery and didn’t seem to have coconut milk in it. Sometimes we get rice with a dish and other times we don’t receive rice. The next time we will pay for rice because we didn’t get rice with the same order previously and then get double rice. Also, the spice is sometimes inconsistent, but we don’t mind that because we assume it’s because they use fresh peppers which can fluctuate greatly in heat. Just beware if your sensitive to spice. I love spice that hurts going in and coming out but my wife like a much more mild level of spice. I’ve had 5 stars that I could hardly finish and some that tasted like 3 stars. My wife has had 3 stars they taste like 5 stars or 0 stars. Regardless of the heat is right though, it’s always delicious.
Lastly, the owner is very friendly and this is a nice family owned local place. In the 5-6 years we’ve been eating here, I have never seen someone else working the front desk. I’ve been in when it’s dead and when it’s slammed and he’s obviously...
Read moreI just tried this for the first time, this many reviews can't be wrong. There is a reason their rating is so high here. I have passed by this place before and didn't stop in because they looked shut down, outside parking lot was empty, it was kind of dark inside, outside looks kind of beat up. DO NOT LET APPEARANCES FOOL YOU, THIS IS BOMB! After reading the reviews here, I thought I would stop by again, this time actually parking instead of driving by. When I parked on the side I could see the open sign, they are still in business (7-9-2014) and with this kind of service, their regular customers will keep them that way. My wife and I both ordered our favorite dish "Pad Thai with Chicken". I have been many places that use a "Five Star" spice rating system. 95% of these places lie (Like taco bell fire sauce, it's mild to me). I ordered mine "Six Stars", my way of letting the cook know I am serious, not some kid gonna order something spicy acting tough and complain later. My wife got 4 stars and said it was perfect. The cook warned me 5 stars is very spicy. I said okay, I will take 6, he said, "Okay but don't cry for me" lol! I cried while I ate it. It was bomb and burned, mind the 5 star scale, I eat food with two drops ghost pepper sauce per bite for perfect spice. 6 was too much, next time I will get 5 stars. SPICE ASIDE, my wife and I agree this is the best Pad Thai we have ever ate, and I have been eating it many places for a long time. We will definitely return, and I highly recommend that you don't judge this book by it's cover, but by it's...
