This is a wonderful museum, located in the heart of Aurora, Oregon. I go here at least once a year for my handspinning guild's Antique Spinning Wheel Showcase (always the first weekend in March), and there are also a lot of other events that the museum hosts. The museum is a virtual treasure trove of the history of the area, with plenty of historical photos and displays of many items from the years when the colony was active. One of the rooms has been turned into a gift shop, with really great handcrafted items in keeping with the atmosphere of the museum. There are several buildings on the property, including Kraus House, and an open barn area. The staff at the museum is friendly and helpful, and the nominal entrance fee is well worth the price. It's really a wonderful experience to walk through the museum with its wood floors and exhibits. I highly recommend this place no matter what time of year you happen to go.

This museum is dear to my heart since it is located in the small historic city I live in. Though smaller than others, the Old Aurora Colony Museum & property is rich with artifacts, pictures & buildings representing those families that traveled from Missouri to settle a small communal society in Aurora. It is definitely worth the visit, especially during one of their annual events. Fun for the whole family. Check out the website for dates & details.

Came here with a friend just before Christmas. Very interesting museum with lots to look at inside and out. They had beautiful handmade quilts hung up and the coolest music box I have ever seen. Wonderful place to stop while out shopping. The lady working the museum was so nice and provided tons of information.

This is an outstanding preservation of a historical event in our nations history. Rarely has a community such as this survived to modern day to give us a glimpse into the past. I am a direct descendent of Johan Will who went there on a quest of a better life from Germany in the mid 1800s. They were brave people who took a big chance for a better future for themselves and their decendents. I am here today to thank them for taking that big chance. This is an extraordinary preservation of our history. Clarke Will, State Historian, was my Grandfathers cousin. I am very proud of my past and have great hope for my...

This is sort of a magic place. A piece of not so old history that took place there. Traces of it are still around the town so after seeing the museum and its backyard, make sure to do some walking tour from their suggested walk to see houses of the old colony still standing throughout this small town. And, if you visit the museum during a quiet time, they may let you ring the two huge bells, one in the back and a smaller one in the museum itself. They did to me. It's like a magic...
