Bates Recital Hall — Attraction in Austin

Was here for a performance of my child at longhorn band camp. Aging but nice venue. Slightly odd setup to get in the hall — climbing stairs then a choice of doors, one of which for some reason had a small glass enclosure (I assume to deaden sound for latecomers). Live-streaming of performances and a nicely engineered hall made for a great performance both in person and from remote.

This has been our free date night spot for decades. Always lovely to see the enormous pipe organ, and several times a year, there are organ recitals and concerts. Terrific acoustics....

Five stars for acoustics and performers. Seats are adequate but feel like old movie theater seating. Much better than the Paramounts’ cramped accommodations. Parking on UT campus is always a challenge, but there is a parking garage directly across from the entrance that usually has plenty of space available in the evenings and...
