Posse East (Posse West closed over 25 years ago) is the quintissential beer and burger joint in north campus. Its been going strong since my days as an undergrad and was one of the first watering holes I frequented. 25 years later the same group of locals still sits at the same table arguing over whatever feels right at the moment, the place is still serving pitchers of beer and burgers and tacos, the engineering and law students still pile in after and sometimes during class, and it is still one of the single best places in Austin to avoid the "in" crowd and actually relax on a random evening. There is still no beeter place to relax ehen school is out of session and it has ling been my favorite locale for watching college bowl games when most of the kids have cleared out. To many its a bit of nostalgia forever locked in amber and that's a good thing for Austin when many of the good old haunts that made Austin weird are bing replaced by corporate facades and trendy popups. The burgers mat not quite be what I remember, but the chili cheese fries, the service, and the atmosphere still...
Read moreThis place is a disappointment. Most of the positive reviews for this restaurant are nostalgic, and need to be updated. The service here is about as bland as the seasoning they use on the hamburgers. The food is not terrible, but nothing stands out that would make me want to return, especially for the price. All of the sides are a la carte, so nothing is included with a burger or sandwich. The small order of onion rings is $4.25 and only includes (5) onion rings!!! AND THEY ARE FROZEN GENERIC GARBAGE What a joke. Why in the world would anyone spend time and money here when C & A is a 200ft walk away? Add some seasoning to your burgers. Try slicing up a real onion, dipping it in buttermilk/flour/seasoning before frying it, and give your customers a better quality product, or at least a better portion for their money. Why would you serve frozen breaded onion rings when a fresh alternative is cheaper? Laziness is most likely the answer. Over priced food. Nothing impressive. Spend your money...
Read moreWent to Posse East several days ago with my girlfriend. I had been wanting to try it out ever since learning about it from its inclusion on a "best burgers in Austin" list. The vibe of Posse East definitely gives dive bar. They have tons of decorations on the walls that remind every patron that the University of Texas is in Austin. They also have a large bookcase full of books, which I really enjoyed since most dining establishments fail to show off a book collection. In terms of the food, I must say that the burger itself (we both ordered the 1/4 pound wagyu burger, but mine had tots while hers had French fries) was kind of a let down. It was very pink in the middle and the bun didn't really add anything to it. That being said, I thought the tater tots were fantastic. If you aren't combing the city searching for excellent burgers and you don't mind eating in a bar, then Posse East is probably a good...
