UPDATE
Gary's Playbook to eating at Taco Joint.
Don't stress if the line is out the door (the place is small and the line will move quickly). Expect to wait at least 20 minutes for your order. Remember, good quality food comes with a little patience.
If you're wondering how many tacos to order, the magical number is two. Order one if you're not hungry, and anything past two is overkill since their tacos are filling.
Fried Fish Taco and Street Taco all the way. If it's a Saturday, then it'll be the Fried Fish Taco and the Benedicto on Steak.
Once your order number is called out, go get your tacos and some sauces.
Do not immediately pour the sauces onto your tacos. I repeat, DO NOT immediately pour the sauces onto your tacos.
First, look at the taco.
Second, take a whiff of the taco.
Once you've taken in the majestic view of the taco, then you have permission to take a bite or put some sauce on the taco. Don't over sauce the thing because you'll lose the flavor.
Using your index/middle fingers, and thumb, lift up the taco at the tip and eat. Chew slowly to take in the delicious flavor one bite at a time. Occasionally take a bite and look away at a distance to ponder about life. Look at your surroundings: the people next to you, the staff working, the long list of receipts that are printed out next to the sauces.
There is nothing wrong with alternating between tacos.
Once you've finished your tacos, lean back in your chair, and take a deep breath. Stay in your chair for another 1-2 minutes.
Pick up your trash, briefly clean the table, and get up. Place the trash in the trash can, and the plastic baskets on top.
As you head out the door, take a quick glance back at the restaurant and then leave.
Go home and reflect on the delicious meal you just engulfed.

Taco Joint surprised me with their delicious tacos, friendly staff, and tasty sauces. I can't believe I never ate here during my undergrad years since it's right next to the UT campus.
Before ordering I asked the employee (Livia) what tacos were the most popular. Livia went down the menu listing her favorite tacos and then eventually went through the whole menu saying all the tacos were good. After eating their tacos I realized she was right; all their tacos are good. My girlfriend and I couldn't help but make "Ooooh" and "Ahhhh" sounds at each other with every bite out of those precious tacos.
My favorites are the Fried Fish Taco and the Street Taco. The Fish Taco is crispy and refreshing. The Street Taco is very flavorful and the avocado in it makes you want more. I love the Habanero, Chipotle, and Avocado sauces which you can get yourself at the condiment station.
The tacos are very filling and I would recommend getting at least two tacos. I love how their tacos aren't greasy (good for students who don't want to feel lethargic in class).
Advice: Taco Joint is an incentive to eat breakfast (for you students), go for early or late lunch to avoid long lines. On Saturday, get their...
Read moreI've been going here off and on for 7 years. The breakfast tacos are pretty good, generously stuffed and the main reason I come back. The migas on flour is fantastic. Good vegetarian and meat options. The street taco is hit or miss depending on who is cooking it it seems. The tortas are also pretty good and filling. Overall decent price for good portions. The sauces also all have great flavor. I wish they were a little more spicy. The most recent time I visited I noticed they started charging for salsas. I didn't realize this (previously they had a salsa bar that was self serve). So I didn't order any, and when my to go order was called I asked the counter server if I could have a handful of salsas. I was told no and told that I would need to get back in line if I wanted to order salsas. I pointed out to the sever that the line was very long and I had already been through it once. The server didn't say anything and just turned around. I don't know if it was intentional but it came off as very rude. I did end up getting back in line and the cashier did apologize for...
Read moreLet me start by saying I love their "TACOS" however this experience was bad..... really bad. This started Saturday around 2:45PM order number 98. I ordered The sandwich (El Cubano), when i got my order I noticed the "over roasted pulled pork" was missing, there was pork just nothing like it said on the menu. It looked like it was cooked on a stove top, which ever method they used to cook it the end result was not pulled pork!
I simply wanted them to put the meat they told me was going to be on it, rather than trying to help me the server and the person who appeared to be the owner/manager gave me rude responses and said it was pulled pork!
This is Texas, what i was given was NOT pulled pork! i would have been fine with any other meat at this point but rather than help me they told me that was it and I couldn't do anything about it. Terrible experience, terrible customer service, also update the description on the menu to match the food y'all serve. NEVER did i ask for a refund, just for the error to be fixed!
(the pork tasted like it was al...
