This HEB has been my heb store for YEARS.. seeing that I live right around the corner. Today I was racially profiled while leaving the store. I went through self checkout for 8 items for dinner and as I was leaving a store associate stopped me and told me they needed my receipt. Of course I had no problem providing that because I did indeed pay for my items and I don’t steal. However I was offended because I thought why am I being “ randomly stopped” . I see people coming and going in the store as I stand by the entrance being questioned about my receipt. I asked the worker why was I being stopped of all people . He says an associate told him to check my receipt- he didnt know where I was coming from. ( people that were coming from the same direction weren’t stopped once.)That made me question more - because you mean to tell me .. you have all these people in the store and I’m a target for not knowing where I came from… what? I then try to move my cart out the way because we are in the middle of the entrance and the man tells me that he cannot allow me to leave blocking my way as if I was trying to leave but I was only moving my cart out of the way.I told him I need to speak to the manager by this time. The managers come and explain to me that they “randomly” do these receipt checks. I’m not buying it one bit. I’ve lived here for YEARS and HEB Is my primary store I shop at and never once have I seen these “ random” stops before. I was in such disbelief, showed the manager my receipt and explained the embarrassment and shock that I was going through. I just could not believe I was being detained at the heb store I shop at all the time for accusations of stealing. The manager Jim was of no help. He showed no sympathy to a loyal customer of heb franchise and was very intent on the policy of “randomly” checking customers. The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach spending my hard earned money on a place who randomly discriminates people for no reason at all. I’m disgusted and angry about how I was treated at a place I’ve spent thousands of dollars at . I have no words other than this place has Poor management and that my experience shopping there -If ever go back .. will never be the same. Shame on you Jim and whoever else who doesn’t take any accountability for their racially profiling that they do. Just Shame. I’m just glad my son wasn’t there with me. That would of been heartbreaking for me to watch him see me going through this and...

Today is Monday June 17th 2024. I ran into H‑E‑B for some last minute groceries. I was in line number 2. The cashier was a tall light skinned girl with curly hair. I have never been treated so poorly in my life at an heb. She was beyond rude, and you could just tell she hated her job and was in a rush. As I start putting my groceries up on the belt, I say hi how are you? I get ignored. She doesn’t say anything to me. The way she was handling my groceries, throwing them down the belt super fast baffled me. As I’m standing there waiting for her to finish scanning all my groceries this girl throws the scanner at me?? I guess I was supposed to scan my own groceries ? Yes I had Bob, but I also had a bagger bagging up all my groceries. As a former heb cashier and bagger this is not okay. I had brought 6 bags with me, cold bags and regular bags. I wasn’t going to say anything, but this has happened the last 4 times I been to this heb. It also happened to one of my good friends the other day. The bagger took all my 60$ worth of groceries and threw it all into one bag. He crushed all my boxes, ruined my birthday bag I purchased. As soon as I stepped outside I had to rearrange all my groceries. He put heavy stuff at the top of my bag and crushables at the bottom. The bag was also way too heavy. They clearly saw that I had a young kid with me and still piled all my stuff all into one bag. I know H‑E‑B has strict policies on bagging, cold stuff goes with cold stuff, bread and eggs, chips go together. I am so surprised the managers haven’t done anything about this. The employees clearly need more training, I know the bagging process and good customer service are things that are a MUST when you first get hired & managers can’t stress it enough. Before I was even done getting my change back from the cashier and receipt she was already greeting the next customer and started scanning their groceries. I was trying to put my cash back into my wallet & she made me feel like I was in the way, she didn’t say bye, or have a good day. She was a very rude cashier. I’m disappointed in this H‑E‑B. I hope the managers step up and do something about this. I...

(*Edited: I called and spoke to a lady who said she would call me back and address my concerns with additional training for the employee. However, I’m still waiting for a follow-up call. I also want a refund for the more than $50 I wasted. It was too much money to just throw away!) We frequently shop at several H-E-B stores and usually have great experiences. On Jan 4th (yesterday), however, we encountered a major issue with an employee named SEAN in the fish department.

Earlier in the day, we were served by another employee (we don't remember his name) who gave us outstanding service!!! Kind, helpful, and proactive in suggesting additional options. Thanks to him, we bought more than planned and left happy. That amazing experience was why we returned later in the evening to buy the exact same items, but in larger quantities because we had invited guests for dinner. Unfortunately, SEAN’s attitude ruined everything.

SEAN was rude, dismissive, and seemed uninterested in helping us. When we asked for the same order, we made it very clear: “We DON’T like anything spicy.” Despite this, he ignored our request and deliberately added the spicy sauce we didn’t want. We only discovered it after getting home, and since we live far from the store, returning wasn’t an option. In the end, we had to throw away over $50 worth of crab legs and jumbo shrimp, and we had nothing to serve our guests.

We didn’t keep the receipt because we trusted H-E-B after the first amazing experience. That trust was the reason we returned to buy more. Unfortunately, SEAN’s terrible attitude won’t be forgotten. The manager needs to address this issue, and I will be calling to request a refund. This situation was completely unacceptable, and they need to take responsibility for it.

SEAN, if you don’t like working with customers, do everyone a favor and either switch departments or find a new job. Your customer service deserves a score below zero. You ruined what should have been a great evening for us. Absolutely terrible! The one star review is only for you!!!!! (And YES, I will call the number mentioned on the...

UPDATE: This store is definitely going down the drain. It used to be products were always in stock, fruits and vegetables always fresh and of the best quality but no more. Every time I stop by there’s always the problem of not finding the product in stock but the worst part is going through the fruits and vegetables section. Fruit almost rotten still on shelves and rotten vegetables still in the bag to everyone’s view. They don’t care to clean up and bring out more fresh produce, is as if they’re forcing you to buy or go home. All those commercials saying they have the best of the best…yeah right! We need a Trader’s Joe store around this area! —————————————————————— I’m not sure about all the good reviews, but every time I go to this H‑E‑B location (which is the closest to me), I leave really disappointed about many things. The most recent one is seeing how poor the quality of the store’s brand products is, just take a look at the photos. I opened the lettuce package and this is what I found, disgusting lettuce leaves. I can tell you I threw away half of the lettuce because of the state of it. It makes me wonder if the store has a product quality supervisor for their products. Another thing that really bothers me it’s to see how much they spray the vegetables and herbs with water. They even have them in ice and water them so much, the leafy vegetables and herbs start to get brown leaves thus not lasting at all after purchasing. Please go check the Asian market close to you, I’ve never seen them watering their vegetables/herbs and they’re beautiful! Aren’t your refrigerators working properly? Reason why I will be buying at the Asian store most of my vegetables from now on, tired of spending almost $3.50 on a lettuce package to get just half of it edible.

Extremely Disappointed by HEB Staff’s Behavior Toward My Service Animal July 13, 2025 11:07 PM I’ve lived in Austin nearly 15 years and have had the same trained service animal since 2015. What happened tonight at the Lakeline HEB was unacceptable. While checking out, a young male employee standing in a group nearby confronted me in an aggressive, hostile tone, claiming to have a phobia of dogs. But instead of removing himself or asking for assistance, he raised his voice and treated me with open contempt. This wasn’t fear. It was performative and mean-spirited. He stood his ground, told me to “get [my] dog away from [him],” and acted more disgusted than afraid. Charlotte, the manager on duty, was standing right there. When I told them my dog is a trained service animal, they laughed, mocked me, and went back to their conversation. Charlotte didn’t intervene, didn’t de-escalate, and made no effort to address the situation. When I calmly approached her afterward to express concern, she shooed me away and sarcastically told me to “have a good night.” As someone with an invisible disability, I’ve dealt with years of judgment and misunderstanding, but thought I was well past that until tonight. This brought all of it back: the shame, the public humiliation, and for what? For following the law and managing my disability responsibly? If this employee truly has a phobia, HEB should be accommodating him appropriately, not putting him in public-facing roles where service animals are a legal reality. The only person who acted professionally was the cashier who checked me out. Everyone else either participated or stood by. I expected better from HEB. This was a failure of training, accountability, and basic human decency.

Horrible. Cart locked while walking out of store after paying for all items. Hit shin on cart and massive knot formed immediately. This photo is sitting on the HEB store floor…because I nearly passed out. I had to fully lay down to avoid losing consciousness. Met with the manager, who moved me to the employee break room to lay on the floor there. Left my contact information and was told I would be contacted. Never heard anything. I sent an email last week, received a call today. The service agent was very rude, asserting that the cart didn’t malfunction but could not give an exact reason why the cart locked. I asked if anything had been done at the store to prevent this from happening again and she said that because HEB is a private company they cannot share processes. I told her I was worried about it happening again and asked what assurances she could give that it would not. She gave none, and instead advised I should simply be more careful in the future knowing it indeed could happen again. She used the analogy that if I tripped walking over a speed bump once, that next time I would be more careful. Sure, that analogy applies if the speed bump were invisible, and somehow I could develop x-ray vision to see the speed bump the next time. Absolutely horrible customer service, no apology for anything and flat out defensive when I’m the party that was injured.
