For the most part, I have enjoyed my experience at this location. When a theater system is properly tuned, it is worth the money, but when you got a hack in the crows nest that only loads film it tends to be most annoying. It would seem that the easiest way to avoid any problems is to get their early and tweak the system prior to opening doors. This is the second Regal to be removed from my list of of viewing venues because of the same reasons: Poorly configured theater equipment. The first thing I noticed was the commercial tripe that played prior to the previews only had sound coming from the left front channel. During the previews and feature we only had stereo, no digital multichannel sound. Secondly, the video looked more like it was playing from a projector running a florescent light source rather than any digital or focused projector; the flicker was horrid. To add to that, I don't think they set the lens source correctly because the image wasn't centered on the screen and was "fuzzy" on the fringes. This is why I crossed Westgate off my list, and now Metro. With all the complaining going on in Hollywood about poor box office performance it would at least make sure your viewing experience was positive. No one is going to go pay to view a movie if their personal home theater is better. UPDATE: Went to see War Horse with my significant other, and it was once again in theater 5 of this complex. Since my original post Dec. 6th, 2011 they have done nothing to improve or fix any of the problems I reported previously. The manager wrote back to me saying they were sorry and offered me free passes. Why bother? It was like offering to write me a bounced check with another check. Really, whoever is in charge of the sound and video need to quit playing mahjongg and check the...
Read moreLet me be clear: Regal Cinemas Metropolitan is not just a movie theater—it’s a portal to another dimension.
From the second you walk in, you’re met with that perfect mix of blockbuster energy and hometown charm. The staff? Absolute legends. Warm, professional, and genuinely excited about what they do. Whether it’s the manager chatting about upcoming releases or the concession crew hooking you up with popcorn like it’s sacred gold, they make you feel like a VIP every single time.
But let’s talk about the 4DX experience, because words barely do it justice. You don’t just watch the movie here—you live it. Chairs tilt, shake, rattle, and roll in sync with the action on screen. Wind rushes past your face. Fog creeps in. Lightning flashes. Water sprays. SCENTS hit your nose like cinematic perfume. It’s like if Disneyland, IMAX, and a rollercoaster had a love child, and then raised it inside a theater engineered by mad geniuses.
I saw an action movie in 4DX and literally left the theater sweating. It was that immersive. A friend turned to me mid-explosion and said, “Are we okay?” and I genuinely wasn’t sure.
Other theaters? They show you movies. Regal Metropolitan lets you strap in, hold on, and ride the damn story like a storm.
South Austin is lucky—no, blessed—to have this place. Whether you’re catching a quiet indie film or getting launched into space by the latest Marvel epic, this is where movies come alive.
Ten stars if I could. LONG LIVE REGAL...
Read moreWhile we were about 15mins into our movie the projector went out. All the customers sat there for a good while and few customers volunteered to go ask what was going on. When they returned they said the staff told them they were not sure they'd be able to get it working. About 10 mins had past we were still in the theater no staff members had come in to say what was going on or let us know what to do. After sometime the picture came back on but no sound... again no staff came in so customers volunteered to leave and check with the staff... when the customer returned he said he was told they were working on the sound and wouldn't be able to restart the movie to where it went off. We also needed to leave to go get a refund. Had to stand outside in the cold and rain and only the manager could refund us... which was not available at that time... also they said they were not going to refund popcorn and drinks... we waited a while and decided to leave due to the ridiculousness of the situation. Poor management that clearly didn't know how to handle the situation. I love Regal cinemas but this theater No way will I ever go back!! I attempted to contact them twice hoping to at least get a voucher to see the same movie I paid and didn't see... but...
