Sustainable Food Center — Attraction in Austin

Absolutely in love with this organization. I have volunteered with sfc for over a year as a kitchen assistant in their Happy Kitchen program and will continue to do so as long as they'll have me.

The sfc pitch - which you can find on their website but here we go anyway -

Grow: Anyone can learn to grow healthy organic produce and sfc will show you, your school, or community, how with classes and community outreach programs.

sfc's spread the harvest program provides free seeds to low income gardeners to encourage gardening.

Share: sfc connects Texas farmers with consumers via their Farm Direct program. SFC farmers markets cut out the middle man so farmers make more from their harvests and consumers get to know where their food comes from.

sfc's Double Dollars program doubles WIC and SNAP benefits at sfc farmers markets to encourage families to buy and consume more fresh produce.

Prepare: Affordable cooking classes making healthy home cooking accessible to anyone of any income and skill level. Featuring area Austin chefs as the instructors and covering a range of culinary topics from butchery to ice cream making, these cooking classes are completely worth the low price of admission.

Fantastic mission, admirable execution of their mission, and friendly, welcoming people make this one organization to watch and support.

SFC is a really cool organization with a strong presence throughout Austin. It would be hard to elaborate on all the things they do, but chance are, their work has had an impact on your life. The people there really care about the producers and the consumers. It's not just about providing ways for growers to get their produce on the market or to get fresh food to people. They provide recipes (and even cooking lessons through the Happy Kitchen)! What more can I say!? I mean, they're just really committed to their cause...and what a tasty...

Great recipes from the awesome chefs. I chopped and cooked while watching movies and drinking wine. Great place to host a party, reunion, and just learn. Healthy choices, with spectacular flavor. I will definitely be back. Right next door to...
