Walnut Creek Municipal Pool — Attraction in Austin

Different rules apply here depending on the life guards present and the tone of your skin. I hate having to be the one to be caught in obvious discriminatory practices, but I hate it even more when my child is the one as the target.

After being at the pool from 2:50pm to 4:30pm, my child swimming and jumping off the diving board from shortly after arrival. Very strong swimmer for his age. Other small children are on this diving board as well. h is picked out (the ONLY black child at the pool at this time) to do a swimming test. Now exhausted he pushed through and passed still, but then we’re told it should have been done prior and with all kids under 13. After this as we are leaving they have another (not black) child who is the same size on the diving board who is getting assistance to even get out of the pool after jumping in, and are not blinking an eye!

We’ve been coming to Walnut Creek Park for years, but somehow we just discovered the Walnut Creek Municipal Pool and let me tell you, we’re about to be in this thang ALL summer! ☀️💦

This place is a whole vibe friendly staff, lifeguards on duty, a dedicated kiddie pool for the little ones, and the best part? FREE admission! Move over, Barton Creek there’s a new pool in town, and it’s giving main character energy. 💧✨

But here’s a pro tip: Before you let your kiddos dive into the deep end, make sure they complete the swim test. Safety first, always! 🛟🌊

Whether you’re looking to cool off, splash around with the family, or just soak up the sun, this is the spot. Just remember NO RUNNING (unless you want to star in a slow-motion lifeguard rescue). 😅

Roomy! When you and your family want room to play and swim, you'll have it. The diving board can bring a crowd, but it moves fast. The lifeguards are on their job. I appreciate the 5-minute intervals where they take turns checking the bottom of the pool. Come cool off!
