TL;DR: Store with an âevery items [sic] guaranteed to workâ promise on their receipt sells items not guaranteed to work.
This story started so well⌠I purchased a game for my Nintendo 3DS, a game I had been wanting for a while. Excitedly, I brought it home and went to test it in my functioning 3DS system and it failed to even read. After verifying it wasnât my system, I gently cleaned the cartridge with a Q-tip and scrutinized it only to see there was a long deep scratch along on of the contact points on the cartridge Someone clearly didnât test this game after it was traded in. So much for their guarantee. I returned less than 24 hours later to return it and the clerk verified the game didnât work, he couldnât repair it, AND he didnât have a replacement for it. He then went on to inform me that I would only be able to get my money back in the form of store credit. âSeriously? For a clearly damaged game?â I said. âYes, thatâs our policy. Unfortunately our manager isnât here today so there is nothing I can do.â He replies.
Admittedly, I may have rolled my eyes. I turned to shop the store even though I had been there the day before and saw everything to be seen, perhaps there was something worth looking at? I returned to the case where I picked the game from and looked for something that would be of equivalent value before I noticed the sign taped onto said case multiple times: âStore Credit may not be used for any items in this case! No exceptions.â Exasperated, I returned to the clerk and asked if he could call his manager. I was told he is âout in the middle of nowhereâ and probably canât be reached however, if I came back the following day, he should be around to perform the return himself. I informed him that I have a, ya know, JOB and couldnât return the following day and I again asked if he could call. The clerk then went to the back of the store to covertly call the store manager, apparently cell service wasnât as poor as advertised. The clerk returned the back and told me that the game would be processed as a return when the manager was back in town a few hours later. As of now, I can verify that the return went through.
Their receipt sports a lovely little disclaimer at the bottom: âEvery items [sic] is guaranteed to work! If you have any problems within the first 90 day , let us know and we will repair or replace the item. Physical Damage is NOT cover ed under any warranty.
Some guarantee, right? I recognize the policy is clearly stated in store and on the receipt however, that should not apply to items that were clearly damaged and...

NEVER trust a store that only does cash only repairs.
I took my PlayStation to get fixed for an HDMI port issue and within the span of 6 months, I had to take it back twice. Upon the second time I got it back âfixedâ another issue came up. This time it was due to my controller not connecting to the PlayStation. Took it to another shop to see what the issue was and turns out, when they âfixedâ my port issue, they never bothered to re-attach the wire needed for controller connectivity. They only attached the first part so the controller would show as âconnectedâ and stuffed the other end behind a panel. $300 wasted down the drain for sub-par work and no attention to detail.
EDIT: In response to the store, I physically saw the piece that was improperly connected and watched as it was put back in place. I may not know much about hardware and games but it still doesn't deny the fact that something was done incorrectly after being supposedly 'repaired'. My issue doesn't even come from the HDMI breaking, it comes from the lack of quality to fix it and obvious lack of detail or care put into 'fixing' the issue. Here's verbiage from the quick google source btw: The PS5 has an internal Bluetooth antenna that is integrated with its Wi-Fi antenna. It is a set of cables and a small antenna module, typically blue and white, located inside the console. Location: The antenna is located inside the console and is part of the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module. Function: It handles both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for the console. Bluetooth audio: Note that the PS5 does not natively support Bluetooth audio devices. To connect headphones or speakers, you will need a Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the console's USB port, not the internal antenna.
I may have misnamed the cable/antenna, but it is glaringly obvious that you're aware of what part I'm describing and still refuse to acknowledge that a part was disconnected by your staff during a repair. That part being the cable/antenna themselves which lead to no Bluetooth controller connectivity. Just because the module cant move, doesn't mean the...
Read moreStay away from Fix and Play if you want to avoid a headache. I took my x-box in because my picture wasn't working. The self-righteous manager goes off on me after he "repairs" it complaining about how I took it to Play and Trade previously and they didn't use his "10 thousand dollar equipment" to fix it. He treats me like I'm an idiot for using Play and Trade, and goes on and on about how he used to work for Play and Trade and then decided to open up his own shop because he's just so much better. Only when I got the system fixed at Play and Trade it worked for another 2 years.
When I went to Fix and Play it only worked for a week and then started having the same problem. Looks like his 10 thousand dollar equipment "directly from Microsoft" isn't worth the money he paid for it. So I ask him if he'll look at it again and fix it, since whatever he did to it when he "repaired" it obviously didn't work. Well of course he'll look at it again... as long as I pay to have it repaired again. Never mind the fact that he agreed to repair it and never got it working in the first place.
Then he explains to me that he won't give me a warranty because I previously took it to Play and Trade and "everyone else uses hair dryers and glue to fix game systems - and once they do that they ruin the system." Oh really? I told him Play and Trade fixed it before and he knew they used glue and hair dryers on the thing but swore to me that it was fixed now... but now he's telling me that once Play and Trade got to it they ruined it and made it unrepairable? But that of course didn't stop him from "repairing" it anyway and chargin me for it. Oh and did I mention it took them a week to "repair" my xbox after they told me they'd have it ready the same day I took it in?
The place is a dump. They do shoddy work. Next time I'll take my system to Play and Trade and let them use their hairdryers and their glue... cause guess what - at least what they do ACTUALLY WORKS. This is the last time I'll ever step foot in Fix and Play. Don't go near the place. You'd be better off dumping your money...
