A nice little shop that I've been going to for two years now, I never felt the need to review until a few trolls started making a stink. In fact, I'm pretty sure AJ "Gonzales" is actually AJ Martinez, the owner of propaganda palace. He's pretty notorious in the Texas retro game community for sending in his little toadies to trash on his competition. It's a low blow considering how famous and well-established propaganda palace is compared to ramsey island, and kinda pathetic to be honest.
But let's get past AJ Martinez (or "Gonzales") and his desperate attempt to drag his rivals reputation in the mud and move on to the review.
First, these guys are friendly. That's a gift in of itself. In most of my experiences, people who run retro game stores tend to be one of three ways: rude and awkward, knowledgeable but socially inept, or friendly but lacking in knowledge.
These guys are the rare breed that know enough to buy and sell at fair rates, but also know how to converse with other humans.
Their prices are very fair, all things considered in the world of second hand shops. They have overhead, I understand this, and like any other second hand shop in existence, they can't possibly match internet prices. They usually only put a $5-10 overhead on the price an item goes for on the web, a respectable increase if you consider the additional cost of shipping and waiting. Compre this to propaganda palace, a place that is actually infamous in the retro collecting community for being ridiculously overpriced, and these guys are a freaking godsend.
They also offer more than the other two major players in town, propaganda palace and game over.
Game over in particular, an actual franchise of multiple stores across multiple cities (including freaking Seattle, Washington) who should have absolutely no trouble offering fair amounts on games, offers embarrassingly low amounts by comparison. I went in with a pristine loose copy of Mega Man X3 for SNES once and they offered me $25 after wasting over 20 minutes verifying that it wasn't a repro. Thats should tell you everything you ever needed to know about them.
Seriously, if you want a fair offer on your old games, try these ramsey island guys, they're pretty good about it. Just go in with the knowledge that unless your stuff is extemely rare and highly sought after, it's probably not worth exactly what it goes for online. Get those sky-high prices out of your head, or just sell it on the internet and try your luck.
l've never had a bad experience with the ramsey island dudes, and I've been going there...
Read moreI spent all day Saturday looking all over San Antonio for a specific original Nintendo game called link also known as Zelda two. I walked into this place and was absolutely amazed with it and even more so that they actually had the game. I bought a couple others on Nintendo 64 game and a Sega game. Got all the way back home, which is well over an hour away and Link didn’t work and Mortal Kombat two for the Sega didn’t work . When I emailed the company, they assured me, they tested all the games in the store, but yet I get home and they don’t work. It’s a cool store for the culture of gaming and everything that it stands for, but I would be very, very careful when buying retro cartridges from...
Read moreI love this store, it has excellent customer service, superb professionalism, they usually offer top dollar for you old and or unwanted used games, systems (both complete and of incomplete), and accessories; as well as has the best prices and stock in the market. I highly recommend this shop to anyone who enjoys retro gaming or gaming in general!! I'll never have to go back to that horrible game over video games (GOVG) shop with their lack of professionalism and satisfactory customer service ever again. Don't waste you time or money at GOVG and head straight over to Ramsey Island for all your gaming needs; trust me you...
