Tortas Ahogadas El Chivito is a hidden gem for those seeking authentic Mexican cuisine that tantalizes the taste buds. My recent visit left me more than satisfied, and I can confidently say that this place deserves a solid five-star rating!
Firstly, let's talk about their Horchata. Oh, what a delightful treat! The sweet, creamy rice-based beverage was a refreshing companion to my meal. The blend of cinnamon and subtle hints of vanilla added a comforting touch. It truly complemented the flavors of the dishes I ordered.
Now, let's dive into the star of the show—the Quesabirria. Each bite transported me to a realm of cheesy, savory bliss. The succulent, tender birria meat was expertly nestled between crispy tortillas, perfectly crisped to golden perfection. The cheese oozed harmoniously, creating a symphony of flavors that danced upon my palate. The accompanying consommé for dipping added an extra layer of rich, savory goodness.
The ambiance of Tortas Ahogadas El Chivito was cozy and inviting, with friendly staff members who were more than willing to assist and offer recommendations. The prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served, making it an excellent value for the dining experience.
While my visit was thoroughly enjoyable, there's always room for improvement. It would be great if the service could be slightly faster during peak hours, as it was quite busy during my visit. Nevertheless, the wait was well worth it once I indulged in their delicious offerings.
In summary, Tortas Ahogadas El Chivito is a fantastic spot for food enthusiasts seeking a taste of Mexico's vibrant flavors. From their delectable Horchata to the mouthwatering Quesabirria, this place is a true culinary gem. With its positive atmosphere, friendly staff, and exceptional food, it's no wonder this eatery has earned its well-deserved reputation. Don't hesitate to visit and savor the flavors...
Read moreYes! Yes! Several times yes! THE BEST TACOS IVE EVER had in my life and the best in San Antonio (I've tried 3 different place and this one slaps on my mama!)
I pulled up to this small little hut with outside seating area. I read on yelped that they have really good birria (and you know how the internet has been hyping up those) so I had to try them.
The cashier was a knowledgeable and helpful young man (had glasses). He helped me order the birria, which is sold individually, and the buché taco with corn in a cup and I mixed the pineapple and mango agua freshca.
As I waited for my food, a waitress came out and disinfected the picnic table that patrons just left! (Which mean they're clean and taking this Covid deal serious! Good!)
So I brought my food back to my hotel and realized I forgot the consumé (I thought it came with it but it's sold separately. This cashier tried to explain that but I misunderstood)
Ok to the part you've been waiting for, the food!!!
I took one bite of my birria taco and said wow. Literally I stopped chewing and said WOW!!! This taco was bomb even without the consumé to dip it in. I devoured these tacos and they came with an abundance of cilantro, onions, and limes as well as a verde sauce (it had a kick too it and I'm not a fan of spicy but it had flavor too so if you like spicy you'll like it but I am a whimp)
And this buché taco was delicious! They even took the time to explain what it was and showed me the meat before making the taco. It was so delicate and flavorful. The pineapple mango water was also very refreshing. I love this place so much I went back the next day because I wanted that experience again AND because I didn't get take photos before eating it.
I ordered the same thing with a bowl of birria ramen and a lemonade/pineapple water. That was also delicious.
All in all, you can't go wrong with stopping by here!...
Read moreEl Chivito is yet another of those hidden gems that I want to keep stashed, alas, I'm a generous person and feel compelled to let the city know what they're about. Upon arriving, you may be put off by the appearance, but don't judge a birria by its consommé. Actually, scratch that, you can totally judge this place by its consommé because it's that good. But the location is humble, albeit a little ratchet. Coming from the Bronx, I'm more than okay with places like this because I know they're going to lean heavily into their menu instead of the frills and fluff of a fake grass wall with neon quips. Despite being anchored in a parking lot and situating itself around curbs, the area is kept clean and well-stocked with napkins, squeeze bottled salsas, and spotless tables thanks to a courteous and engaging employee bustling out orders and bussing tables. My family of four ordered quesacombos and Tortas Mexicanas. The quesacombos comes with 3 quesabirrias and a bowl of consommé, which was a departure from the consommés I've tried around town that lacked flavor. I found myself spooning the liquid into my mouth long after the quesabirrias were eaten. The Torta Mexicana (mixta and birria) had crusty bolero bread and well-seasoned meats inside. Each came loaded with condiments and fixins making it a meal on its own. Aguas frescas were served in generous portions and for a decent price. Above all, the service is what compels me to recommend this place. The friendliness of all the employees we encountered, along with the high level of execution in the food makes this a place I...
