I was there to vote, over an hour in line before I was able to even get in the door. The MOST egregious example of voter intimidation I have personally witnessed. ONLY 2 lines, allowing NEW voter registrants to jump ahead of those of us who had been waiting for over an hour outside in the cold wind. EVEN making a Combat wounded Veteran next to me wait even longer, He had a tough time standing the WHOLE TIME. EVEN a woman in front of me didn't care, saying what's a couple more minutes.. A Nasty person.. If Others in front and behind me, had known we would have brought a coat. The woman running my assigned table ( A through L) would carry on a social conversation with anybody who wanted to listen Holding up the process. She couldn't hear, had to SLOWLY turn over each section of her books from L back to A. She had an enjoyable look on her face knowing she was in control, keeping people from voting in a timely manner. There was enough room to open all the doors, adding additional tables with ALL the volunteers standing around, bored stiff able to man them so it would SPEED up the process. I personally know of 3 people who saw the long line and turned around and left unable to vote. This is the first example of communist intimidation that is on the horizon. It will be MUCH MUCH worse come the November election. People want to vote in person, Stalling the process IS Voter INTIMIDATION.. Bangor City council SHOULD be ashamed of themselves, sadly...
Read moreThis is one of the good parks. If you're looking for the place where people sell drugs after dark, you're going to want to head over to Cascade Park. Also, shame on you if that's the case. Seriously though, this a small clean park featuring low to no homeless encampments and a very large statue of Paul Bunyan. Most people come for the latter!
Bass Park is basically the Civic Center's lawn, which in turn makes me glad I don't have to mow it! But it is an enjoyable place to have a lunch. Just don't think about that scene from the newer IT movies where the statue comes to life (that's based on this park and statue). The worst old Paul Bunyan has ever done in my presence was to pass gas. At least, that's what I told my signifcant other at the time. The downside to the park and likely actual source of any odor is the wastewater treatment plant that's just up the road and upriver (but hopefully, when you visit, not upwind).
If grass and a giant Paul Bunyan are not your thing, there's literally a giant (by Bangor's standards) casino just across the street. And when you lose all your money over there, old Paul will be patiently waiting for you with a cheap bed of concrete at his feet! He's very accepting and a great listener, judging by the occasional drunk or crazy I see yelling in...
Read moreI was at Bass Park for the Bangor State Fair. This was my first time at this Fair. I was disappointed that there wasn't more to it. The name, state fair, makes it sound so much bigger than what it is. You envision livestock pavilions, stages with bands playing, contests, lots of vendors and craft tables. This should be called the Bangor Carnival. It's a few old rides, a few food vendors and a couple merchandise tents. $7 for each person to enter. This $7 earns you the right to purchase tickets for rides. $30 for each wristband gives you access to all rides as often as you want, except for the a few that are cash only, $10 per ride. Food was expectedly overpriced. The one bright spot was the demolition derby held at the track. The grandstand needs some work and a thorough cleaning, but gives you a decent view, until everyone stands up. To some it up, a family of four spent $163 for entry, rides, 4 lemonade, 2 cotton candies, 2 popcorn, 2 slices of pizza and 1 order of...
