This is a great beach for families with young children!!!
It's a small beach with a playground across the parking lot. We were there in late August. It wasn't crowded & we happily spent the entire day there.
The water isn't deep & it's relatively flat for a long way out. Since it's essentially a harbor, the water isn't rough and was considerably warmer than at other nearby beaches.
The bathrooms were big and cleaner than I expected.
My children spent the afternoon catching (and releasing) hermit crabs and small fish. We even saw a few crabs scurrying about in the water. We watched the tour boats going past toward Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. We made sandcastles. We even enjoyed a...
Read moreI met my husband up on Cape Cod, and this is the first beach he took me to. Coming from being a SOUTH NJ shore girl (Cape May, Wildwood), Kalmus Beach is a nice, refreshing place to be. The air is rejuvenating up there, and the beaches are pristine. I never see a ridiculous quantity of people there, and never run in to issues.

Read morePay $ 20 at gate. Take the 1 lb dog on the edge of the parking lot, about 5 ft in, just in a little sand. Life guard comes over and says no dogs allowed on the beach. I said sign says dogs must be on a leash. Dog was on a leash. Nothing was said at gate or otherwise. Got back to the gate after being there 10 - 15 minutes, asked for my money back. I was denied.
