One place we wanted to revisit was Route 66 Mother Road Museum Barstow, CA. We had a great time on our previous visit. On this visit, we once again met Deb Hodkin and Tina. Deb is really great, and so is Tina. It's not hard to have a conversation with both of them. In fact all the staff are wonderful and knowledgeable. The museum was busy when we arrived and there were numerous foreign tourists.
The Museum is located in a beautiful building called The Casa Del Desierto, which was once a Harvey House and train station. The museum has a great amount of historical displays and exhibits in several rooms. At the museum you can find a room where you watch a video. It was fascinating looking through the older photos and reading about the history of the area. The museum also has great Route 66 items in their gift shop, and yes, we did purchase some souvenirs.

If you crossed the country in the 60s or maybe even earlier, this place will take you back there. It's not real large (the Route 66 portion) but it is really full of some neat stuff. There's things from WWII to what you would like to think is current events (70s- 80s). That depends on your age. It's an example of current events for an older history teacher. I wanted to buy some of the signs and tourist merchandise but I refrained because I don't know what to do with it when I get home. What a great little Route 66 Museum! You don't want to miss this but call to be sure they are open. It's Small but Mighty! The museum displays a collection of historic photographs and artifacts related to Route 66 history and organized into different sections so it's easy to view and not crowded. They also have a great selection of Rte 66 T-shirts and other great Rte 66 items for sale in their gift shop!
Don't forget to check out the Historic train station and Harvey House it's a part of.... The Harvey House Railroad Depot was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1975,...
