Iām not one to write reviews, however I find it extremely necessary! I have been trying to cancel my membership for the location in Belleville NJ for some time now. When Iāve called I have explained that I no longer live in the area, that I live over an hour away and no longer wish to have the membership. One person told me that I needed to come into the location to cancel. I tried to call the corporate number and it says you have to contact your home gym. Once again I called to state that I wanted to cancel and was told that they could place a hold on the account and I would then need to send in a letter stating I wanted to cancel, and I had three months to do so. This was just last week. Today I was charged $30.92, after they just told me the account would be frozen and I would not receive any charges for the next three months. Today when I called to explain the charge I was informed that the person should have told me that I would be charged an annual fee even if the account was frozen. The young lady then explained that I can transfer the account to my current town and have them cancel the account!!!!!! My question or issue is why is it after three calls and $30.92 that I was told that there was nothing that they could do to refund my money and that it should have been explained that there would still be a charge for the annual fees. So I had to go to the local gym in my town and have it transferred, and then canceled, however the charge of $30.92 could not be reverse. I tried to do my part and if I was told the correct information I could have avoided the unnecessary charges that seem to be unimportant to the incompetent people who work in this location. I never liked the service there and the machines were always nasty and dirty. Every time I went there I felt like I was going to catch some kind of disease. The parking sucked and the smell was alway putrid and made me nauseous. More than likely they donāt wish to refund my $30.92 because I was dissatisfied with the location and wanted to cancel, or the people that work there are just incompetent! While the money may not be a great amount, it is the principle at this point that they would disregard the fact that I was told the incorrect information and was billed unnecessarily and told there is nothing they can do about it. We've been visiting the gym 3-5 times a week since then. However, today when they scanned my mother in, we were told she would not be allowed entry without a photo ID. Since I drove us there, my mother did not have her ID on hand.
When I tried to communicate with the manager, Keara, I found her response to be rude and unprofessional. I attempted to show her our membership contract, but she turned away and walked off. Once my sister sent me a picture of my mother's ID, Keara ignored us multiple times. Thankfully, another employee stepped in to assist us.
What was most disappointing was Keara's behavior. As the manager, she should know how to handle customer interactions with professionalism, yet her actions were both dismissive and disrespectful. At one point, when another employee was speaking to my mother in Spanish, Keara even rolled her eyes in front of me. This behavior was completely uncalled for, especially considering we remained respectful throughout the interaction.
I would like to know who I can contact to address this issue further. We didnāt even receive an apology, and the entire situation stemmed from Keara's inability to handle a basic customer service situation.
