Two out of six of us were stung today on the third walkway. We reported it to the woman inside and her response was "that is nature" She should have taken the situation more seriously. It didn't seem to matter to her that someone may be allergic to bees unknowingly and have a serious health risk. To make matters worse while we stood in the museum I even after we just got done telling her this she went ahead and told people to walk out on the walkway where these bees were. The bees have their nest under the walkway. There were not just a couple that came up out from below but a SEARM of bees. As our little ones played I told every person arriving about the bees and about the woman's unprofessional attitude. She had no compassion that others might get stung. Our little 4 year old grandson was stung but that didn't seem to matter to her she was sending families with little children out on the walkway. One of the women I warned outside as she as she got out of her car thanked me and stated that she is ALLERGIC to bees stings and she did not have an EpiPen so she was very thankful for me telling her. I just hope and pray no one has a life threatening bee sting be ause of this...
Read moreThis was a highlight of our most recent trip to Bethany Beach. I am not sure how we have missed it in previous years, but we won't skip it going forward. First, there's a nice playground right beyond the historic house which functions as the visitor center. It is a pretty standard climbable play structure with monkey bars and a slide. Our two year old had a good time going up and down over and over.
The next thing we checked out was the demonstration garden of native plants. It was getting on in the season so many of the species were done flowering, but there were still many late summer blooms to check out, absolutely swarming with pollinators.
Then there was a nature walk that went out into a marsh area, where we were able to see several osprey going about their business. This part of the nature reserve had little shade which made it a bit oppressive in the heat of the day, but that's just how it is when you're in the middle of a wetland.
Overall it was a great visit...
Read moreVery disappointing experience today with the Gingerbread Man event. Women hosting the event was unfriendly, inconsiderate, and arrogant. Her engagement with multiple visitors was offensive and disrespectful. "I assume you are not from here" was one of many comments that made families feel unwelcome in the short time we were inside.
The facility is nice and the marsh walk beautiful. I am sure it is difficult to find volunteers for the holiday season. The woman working inside today does not possess the personality or patience for a visitor...
