Sorry to report: overpriced, mediocre selection, and rude employees. Easy to navigate even in pandemic times because there were almost no customers. I saw 5-6 employees and 4 customers. Man and woman pair of employees (could be owners?) were openly fussing in main room. Man was griping at woman about bags. Another woman employee (dark hair) seemed annoyed at having to open a case to let us look at an item. (I would have happily bought it in a second if she had been polite and welcoming.) Two creepy employees stalked by staring at us at least 10 times in 20 minutes, as if we might be criminals. And as if they might be so thrilled to see us stashing... a chair? into... our pockets? (What in the world would you steal from here?!) Get some video cameras or use security tags. Or do something so you don't seem like a sketchy stalker brushing by/against people repeatedly. (Maybe the workers were just bored. Remember: Almost No Customers.) Huge building, at least 2 floors and many rooms. Good location! Astonishingly well-dusted. Bathrooms very nice and clean. Lots of brass duck head bookends. Good stash of vinyl albums and old books. A few very pretty chairs and beds. No I don't recommend. And no I don't plan to go back. There are plenty of buildings full of this kind of stuff where visitors are treated with courtesy and respect. But hey, maybe someone else will have a better experience. Especially if they have the right look (whatever that may be). I feel sorry for anyone renting space there if they are counting on those employees (or owners? managers?) to...
Read moreMy husband and I go to most of the "antique malls" in and around the area. I had high hopes for this one because it's pretty close to our house and very large. If you are looking for true antiques then maybe this place is for you. You will also pay true antique prices plus more. I don't mind the stores that have old mixed in with new and a few handmade vendors. This is not one of those so please don't go here looking for that. If you depend on a buggy while walking through a store because you have sciatica pain and it hurts to stand upright, don't go here. I understand no one wants a buggy bumping into their precious items but the store is spaced out and it's possible to accommodate this. I was looking for dining furniture but even the modern pieces were priced 3 times more than it should've been. It's nice to say I've been to Alabamas oldest and largest antique mall but I can't say that...
Read moreI actually love this place, but was incredibly taken aback over a potential transaction. One of their vendors had a piece of art for sale by a very famous artist that appeared to come with proper paperwork "provenance". The owner of the piece reached out to me, and could not have been more shady. After doing some investigating and speaking with the seller, it became clear this piece of art was a forgery - from the non-existent appraiser to the wrong zip code being printed on the documentation. He had also sent me photos of other pieces that had no documents or proof of authenticity. I called Hanna to alert them that selling forged/counterfeit art is a federal crime, and the girl at the desk could not have been more laissez faire about the situation - upon being generally rude. Tried to do them a favor. Will not be setting foot back at Hanna...
