It’s just one small room, without a lot of descriptions or explanations, but they have so many great specimens! We probably got through it in an hour. It was very exciting for my five year old because he got to see a lot of rocks that he’s read about: petrified wood, stromatolites, asterism, fluorescent minerals, watermelon tourmaline, pyrite ammonite.

Lovely and informative exhibits, some cool dinosaurs and amazing gemstones. The space is a little cramped but the exhibits are worth it!

Took my 4 and 1 year old grandchildren and was disappointed. No parking, I got a $40 ticket and the dinosaur has been taken down. ☹️

The museum may be small, but it is jam packed with tons of amazing minerals, rocks, gemstones, and more. Llyn, who is a scientist in charge of the collections, was so friendly and helpful with my daughter (and the rest of us!), and shared many wonderful minerals with us. There are over 13,000 items here, so if you're into minerals and crystals you can spend hours here. If you're not into minerals, then there are fossils, dinosaur bones, and other items of interest. But the real draw is the mineral collection. It's beautiful...

Not a destination for a special trip. If you are local to the area of a student at Virginia Tech then this might be a nifty little place to check out, but don't make any special arrangements to get here. Tucked into a student building on the second floor. One room...
