Hi Y’all. I’m visiting from out of state. I stopped my the The Virginia Tech bookstore in Blacksburg to get a phone charger as I am on foot right now (lent my car to my daughter who is a new VCU student in Richmond). I had to request help to access the chargers and the associates assisted me with picking out the charger they thought I needed. The first time I walked out of the store, I opened the charger cord ($19.99) and wall receptacle ($19.99). I realized they sold me USB-C instead of lightning after opening the boxes, went back immediately and tried to get a refund. Finally the register clerk called a manager who exchanged the 6 ft cord for a 3 ft shorter cord after I explained that 2 employees helped me with selecting the products. She exchanged it for a lightning cord (allbeit much shorter, with no refund). When I sat down at Starbucks soaking wet (It was raining and I was on foot, couldn't call an uber since my phone needed to be charged, tried to charge my phone and I realized that the new cord the manager selected for me was a USB that required a USB receptacle. The recepticle they had sold me earler had a USB - C recepticle. So now the other end of the cord was a problem. Incompetence! Next day I went to the other Virginia Tech Bookstore… the one that has a 2 on the end of the name. The guy immediately welcomed me and found me a perfect receptacle for $ 7.95. Easy Peasy Thank You thank you. That was just a few minutes ago. The other two incidents occurred yesterday morning and early afternoon. I just edited this for clarification and to remove typos and so the date was late July. No one from the store has apologized or responded. I hope they have heard me, as this store was not hospitable to out of...
Read moreI was coerced into buying my computer from the campus bookstore in the summer before freshman year due to the "deals" and "incentives" that they offered. My computer broke in the Fall of my Sophomore year and took it in for them to repair. It took 2 months for them to "repair" it the first time and they returned it to me just a week before I went home for winter break. I paid the $600 repair fee and went home. It, of course, stopped working again about a week into break and I had to return it to the repair center after break. They kept my computer for 3 months that time just to charge me another $600 repair fee. It's almost like they enjoy preying on broke college students. That $1200 was most of the money that I made the summer before. Really disappointed with the University and this bookstore.
The two managers I worked with (a man and a woman) were extremely condescending and treated myself and the customers before me with disrespect.
This is the first time I have ever written a negative review for anything. I work in customer service and understand that it is not an easy job to do. I also know that if I make a mistake, I own up to it and make it right. I pay my tuition and living costs like everyone else, it would be nice if the university and its bookstore could own up to their every...
Read moreI rented a total of six books from the Hokieshop University Bookstore over the course of the year; three books each semester. Upon returning the rentals in both cases, the employees told me I had only rented one book and had purchased the other two, refusing to give me my money back. When I picked up the books at the start of each semester, especially in the case of the second time, I triple checked that they were all available for rent. This is all despite the fact that all the books had "For Rent" stickers from the store clearly on the cover. In the second case, I was offered a total $7.25 to buy back my $100 worth of books. The employees in the store were all as nice as they could be about the situation, but the computer system is definitely not worth losing money! The staff suggested I sell the books on eBay to try and make my money back, which is the really the only option I have. There are other bookstores in the Blacksburg area, I would recommend trying...
