Graduate Life Center at Virginia Tech Graduate School — Local services in Blacksburg

Not a good place in my case... I have lived for about 1 year in GLC at Donaldson-Brown, and I can say that this housing was one of the worst places I have ever lived in three years of my life in the United States of America. The only good thing is the location. It is near the main building of Virginia Tech, so it is good to go to classrooms and restaurants. But that's the only thing I can say as pros. The building was too close to Downtown, so it was quite loud at night. I sometimes woke up due to the loud noise of drunken people from the outside. The building was too old. They said it was remodeled a lot, but I could see some old parts. Like the mattress in the room, there were some old gadgets that looked at least 10 years old. And the air conditioner was too old to work normally. The elevator was malfunctioning too much. It stopped working regularly (twice a month), and they didn't even fit it well and regularly. It looked like they did not check the system well. If the accident happened due to this elevator, who will be responsible for that matter? The fire alarm system was the worst. It was not often, but it malfunctioned sometimes at night, like 1~2 A.M. a lot, so we should evacuate at late night until the alarm was off. And I am not sure why this building had small laundry and kitchen. There were more than 100 people and the laundry had only three washing machines and five dryers. And they were not managed well (dirty). And the kitchen? The size of it was similar to a normal house kitchen for four people. And this building has at least 100 students. There must be some good remodeling plans in the future. To sum up, I was not satisfied with living in this building. Even though they will fix those problems in the future, I am not going to live in this building again. I do not want to pay that amount of money to live in this bad place. Edited: I heard it is getting better now....

I attended Halloween party at the Graduate Life Center of the Virginia Tech. The part was organized by the International Support Services of the Virginia Tech. It was a great event and a great opportunity to learn about the American culture. There was good food and events...
