Be careful when working with VA Tech graduate school. If your child applies for school here and puts on his or her application that they are supported as a dependent then - watch out. The graduate school, without communicating with you or your student, will charge you out-of-state tuition rates even if you are an in-state student! No communication from them. I called and they stated that my son needed to send a copy of our Federal and State tax return to demonstrate that (1) we lived in VA and (2) that he was a dependent. Well, that's fine but no one told us. And, hey - btw, my son graduated from your undergraduate program as an in-state student just last semester so we are STILL IN-STATE. Does he still need to demonstrate that to you? If so, fine. That part, I understand. But, the very least you could do is communicate that in any way prior to charging me increased tuition rates. If I hadn't noticed this on my own, then I would simply have paid the bill and been out thousands and thousands of dollars. Also, when I called the grad school to inquire, the woman on the phone had the worst attitude and tone in her voice like I'm the idiot and bothering her. Really? Is...

He received no information regarding his application until December when he was notified that his application had been rejected. I supported this candidate because I believe he would make significant contributions to his selected field of study. I would like to receive information regarding the guidelines used in the selection process. Other extraordinary candidates have probably also been denied the opportunity to excel. I have received no response to a voice mail to the graduate office in early December. I re-tried the number today only to learn that the "voice mail box" is full. This is no way to do business! I myself have several degrees from Virginia Tech, and I have provided some limited financial support to the school over the years. Perhaps I should evaluate this issue.

Read moreIf I could rate the experience 0 stars I would. I enrolled for a class in their virtual campus, and the experience has been a nightmare from the beginning. There is an overwhelming lack of communication about what is required to obtain the degree, when the class would actually meet, and I have been working on trying to dis-enroll from class for a week. This is nothing short of a waste of...
