TLDR - Prices for PC parts are somewhat high, they institute a non-standard return policy, and they were not willing to price match even down to current MSRP on parts.
I went to this store because Best Buy didn't have any PCIe Wifi cards in-stock and I would have had to wait two days for the item to ship. Doing some looking around on Google, I ran across PC Land and decided to give it a shot since it was a local business and their staff had given me good recommendations in the past for my first PC build.
Again, the staff was nice enough, but the prices are just astronomical compared to what's on offer in say Best Buy or another big-box retailer. I bought a TP-Link AC1200 for $49.99 not bothering to check the price online. Getting home and installing the card, I went to Amazon to check, and the card was going for only $23 with an MSRP of $30...
Needless to say, I felt like I had been cheated and went back to either have them match the MSRP or return the item. However, one thing I didn't catch before buying was the return policy, which states that pretty much every item you return is subject to a 20% restocking fee. In the end, they gave me $10 back, but I just find it a bit insulting that they would price gouge to that degree. Lesson learned I guess.
Edit: Just to give transactions more transparency in the future, I feel the return policy should be advertised somewhere on the website. Currently, I can't find any mention of the policy except what's listed on store receipts after buying an item.
Edit: After the response from management on my post, I've adjusted the wording in the TLDR of my review. I'd very much like to continue to do business with the store on good terms, I was just taken aback that they could not price match to current MSRP. I completely understand that smaller stores can't move the same volume of product as say a large retailer with a lower profit margin needed to stay in business. But when the item in question is marked over 50% more than current MSRP, that seems a bit incredulous. I'm sure your prices are within that margin I mentioned before for you to offer a good deal to customers and also make a profit, but in this case, that just doesn't hold up. If you're willing to review my purchase, the transaction took place on July 27th at 5:15pm - authorization number 101453. Sorry if my first review was a bit harsh. I do still appreciate yours and your...
Read moreI wanted to repair my laptop which had a coffee spill on the keyboard. Bill told me it would cost 65 USD to clean the liquid. I agreed. He provided me a quote mentioning 110 USD and assured me again and again that it would be 65 USD (labour cost) if the laptop was not fixed. I asked him why it was written 110 USD and he said not to be scared of the quote and it was just an estimated bill if the laptop got fixed. He added if anyone else there would demand 110 USD, then I should call him immediately and he would take action against them. A staff member called me over the phone after 4 days telling me the laptop did not work after cleaning. I went there and a young man with curly hair told me it would cost 110 USD even though they failed to fix it. Bill was not there. I was arguing with them for 40 minutes about the promise that Bill made to me. There were two staff members in the shop. They both were talking to each other inside and came back again. The curly hair guy told me that they could not take less than 110 USD even though they failed to fix the laptop. I was suppressing my vehement anger. I told them to bring Bill and I wanted to talk with Bill directly about the promise he made.
Then The curly hair guy became a bit flexible and forwarded me to the other staff member. He said sorry and agreed to receive 65 USD. I do not know what made them to come to that point.
The curly hair guy was cunning I must say. Sorry for my choice of words.
I have the receipt corrected by the long hair guy which is showing how 110 USD was reduced to 65 USD after 40 minutes. I appreciate that he felt sorry for the incident, confusion and delaying.
And thank you Bill. Probably you are the owner or co-owner of that PC land store. I hope you will take care of...
Read moreIn February 2018, I bought an Apple Macbook Pro 15 at Cyberline Computers. I purchased the computer for my son who was leaving for grad school. The owner told us it was a refurbished Apple and was good as new. I expressed concern since my son would not be in town, but the owner assured us that if we had ANY problems we could return it for a refund. Less than a month after the purchase, the computer would randomly shut down even though the battery still had charge remaining. We brought it back from North Carolina and the owner said it was just the battery, which he replaced. The problem persisted after the battery replacement. I called the owner who AGREED to give us a refund. Since then, we have stopped by the store and made numerous calls in an attempt to be refunded as promised. The owner claims he does not have the money to refund us and he will probably close the business. I'm not sure if that is true, but he refuses to give a refund as promised. I have a receipt which states that there is a 1 year warranty against defects. In April I purchased a replacement Apple computer for my son from another retailer (which works great). Since the Apple computer purchased from Cyberline is defective, in that it will randomly shut down while the battery still has a charge, I could not in good conscience sell this computer to...
