Everything was great when I originally came in to get help for my grandpa to renew his ID. While I was in the DMV for my grandpa I saw some friends that only spoke Spanish and they asked me if I could help translate for them. I told them great that’s no issue let me just drop off my grandpa at work and I’ll be back but just call me if anything if you would like me to translate while I come back since he works only 5 minutes away. They call me while I’m about to park at the dmv and the lady they were working with was telling me that the power went out and they can’t do anything and I said great I understand and I’m trying my best to translate this back to my friends. While saying this she says there is nothing we can do and they would have to come back. I say great but I’m trying to get all the information they need for next time they come in they have everything and then she starts getting louder and almost to the point that it’s turning into yelling and someone in the back said well we shouldn’t even be talking with someone over the phone which I understand too so I hung up because I was walking inside already. Once I’m inside the lady starts saying listen I was just trying to tell you over the phone that the power went out and there’s nothing we can do which I told her I understand but I’m trying to get all the information they need to come back because they always say come back and next time they come back they say they are missing something else and I don’t want that to happen to them. Fine, while we are there she also suggested going online and they should be able to do it there and I thank her but I still wanted to confirm the information they needed. While we were talking they said it looked like the power was coming back on and said lemme give it a shot and starting working on the situation and guess what they needed more information from them than what they had which was fine and while trying to translate back to my friends what they needed they were rushing us and telling us they need to help others while we were still at the window trying to understand all the information we needed because we still had questions for the DMV worker and not allowing me to translate because they were rushing us and told me I already told you everything you needed so I just said let’s go and left. I’ve always had issues going to this DMV before for the 24 years I’ve lived in Virginia but never felt so frustrated and discriminated like today for trying to translate to someone. It’s no one’s responsibility to have to accommodate to someone that speaks Spanish I understand that but when I’m in person translating so there is no confusion between both parties and no need to accommodate I felt so bad for my friends and angry to imagine how many other people go through this at this DMV I hope there’s a change soon and better training to treat people with dignity when they come inside instead of being treated like crap and rushed as if we didn’t wait to be...
Read moreGood night. Today, January 24, at 8:30 a.m., the lady at the information window, a lady dressed in a gray blouse or jumper, was being racist with me and with the person I was going to, who needed to renew his license. At the information window there were two people, the first where she starts the information line and another one just at the next window dressed in a white blouse. When we got to the front of the line, the lady dressed in white had finished serving a customer, and the lady dressed in gray had to serve us since she vacated before the other lady. I approached her and said, "Good morning." "The gentleman would like to renew his license." The lady in gray looked at me unpleasantly and said, "Next window." I thought it was strange because the lady from the next window had just finished giving her instructions to the client that she had; when she saw me, she asked me how she could help me, but in a confused way. I told her that the lady in gray had told us to talk to her, the lady in white turned just as puzzled that we stopped to see her partner, the lady dressed in gray had to attend to us since we were next, and the lady in white was busy (there is not much science in that) by the order of arrival. Previously, on Saturday, January 14, when a friend did his driving test, the same lady handed me the application and turned to talk to her co-worker. When she looked at us again, I asked her to please lend me a pen, and she said to me, "See that I'm done?" With the same look of displeasure as today, which left me cold, I looked at her seriously and told her I was sorry; I still don't consider myself a fortune teller, and in any case, she shouldn't have gotten like that because of a pencil. I didn't say anything to her so as not to predispose her co-workers to us. But without a doubt, she hates Latinos, or she hates me specifically. It is very sad that in 2023, in a multicultural country, there are people who are so intolerant of other cultures. Without a doubt, I felt discriminated against, and I hope that no Latino has to go through the same thing in this location. I do not demand to be treated with privilege or homage, only with equality, dignity,...
Read moreHorrible experience!! First of all let me state I am a United States Air Force veteran who served this country over 20 years. I had an appointment which I was there early for. According to their website, you should bring: If you are age 19 or older, you must show one proof of identity, one proof of legal presence and two proofs of Virginia residency. Proof of your social security number (if you have been issued one) is also required; I brought my current drivers license from Alabama, my social security card, my electric bill, insurance bill and my military ID. After it being scrutinized by the lady at the information desk up front and then a manager coming to look at all my paperwork I was told they needed my birth certificate. After pleading with them to let me come back and having everything reviewed and being told that was all I needed, I drove home to get my birth certificate (15-20 minutes each way). I get back with my birth certificate and marriage certificate only to get through the information desk check and a managers check to get called to the booth and be told by the gentleman that I need my marriage certificate showing how my name changed from birth to my first husbands last name to my current last name. I told them I do not have my old marriage certificate from 20 years ago. I have my divorce decree but not the marriage certificate. I also have both social security cards showing my previous last name and my new one showing my current name. Mind you I waited over 3 weeks for this appointment and there is not another one available for at least a month. Again, I am a United States veteran who served our country for over 20 years and I should not be made to feel like this over trying to get a...
