I shopped around, for quite some time I might add, but after all was said and done I realize now I could have appropriated that time elsewhere and called it productive. I have been in the market for a new laptop, years now really, and finally decided to try something different. I wanted something besides the cookie-cutter impersonal buy it over the internet variety experience with this. Why? Because I don't have a clue when it comes to computers. Furthermore, I want it custom built, and by someone close like a neighbor so I can yell across the street when I hit print and the printer just says, "error."
Enter Starwest Computers, and more importantly, Sean, Josh and from what I can see and tell, dedicated staff. And they really are just around the corner from where I live. Their staff appeared smiling and happy, the techs working diligently, yammering on in some form of verbal code I'm sure I'll never come to understand. Yes, I paid close attention to what the "techs" were doing the whole time I was lurking at their Layton location and I can assure you they are on task.
I sent an email to this place of business this morning at about 10 AM, expressing my interest in a custom built laptop and that I would be gauging their customer service based on their response time to my email request. At exactly 10:10 I received a return call. 10 minutes to get a call back after sending an email request for inquiry...EXCEPTIONAL RESPONSE TIME!
At this point I'm excited, and quite honestly I can't tell you the last time it was that I got all worked up over a computer. I think that would have been when IBM came out with the fastest processing laptop of all time. The 386, and that was back in the days of DOS. There, I said it, DOS! I think we had all died and gone to heaven too, having just upgraded to the Motorola half-brick. Oh, and 20 minutes of cell time cost you like $400.00.
The bottom line is this. If you want exceptional customer service, high quality products and the right products to fit your needs, I quickly came to understand they hold customer service in high regard, then you won't find a better establishment to fill your computing needs. They are fair and honest at Starwest, and I can live with that!
Oh, I almost forgot, two things they did that won me over immediately. The 10 minute return call was first. The second item. Josh actually jogged back and forth from his stock room when showing me numerous items to make sure I was fully informed. HE HUSTLED AND I MOST CERTAINLY DID NOT EXPECT THAT.
Josh, your dedication to the customer is second to none. I can see now why you folks have been in business for decades. I look forward to picking up my new laptop tomorrow and appreciate the over-the-top...
Read moreI recently used their services to clean and repair my personal computer. The shop informed me that it would be ready for pickup the following week. Upon arrival, I was advised that they had attempted to contact me, though I have no record of such communication. Furthermore, the diagnosis provided me with only one solution, which I found puzzling. If this were the only feasible option, I wondered why it hadn't been implemented already. Nevertheless, I authorized the repair and was informed that my device would be available for pickup the following week again.
Upon receiving of my repaired computer, I discovered that the cleaning I had requested had not been carried out satisfactorily. Despite the shop's assurance that they had completed this task, I could still see dust accumulation on the interior components and fan blades. When I brought this to the attention of the employee, he offered to blow out the dust I had identified. During this process, I observed the employee using compressed air to dislodge the debris. However, upon returning home and examining the device more closely, I found that no prior cleaning attempt had been made before my intervention.
In addition to the incomplete cleaning, I was dismayed by the demeanor and attitude of the employee. My interactions with the same individual on multiple visits were characterized by his aloofness and disinterest in assisting me. He would either ignore me entirely upon entering the store or stare me down until I greeted him. Once engaged, he was brusque and unhelpful, giving the impression that my presence was an unwelcome intrusion.
While the repairs did ultimately succeed in restoring my device's functionality and preserving my data, my experience with this establishment was less than satisfactory. I would recommend that the store place greater emphasis on quality assurance and customer service to ensure that future clients do not have similar...
Read moreI'm sure this place is a great place to buy a computer and I'm sure if you bought a computer from them that they will be very knowledgeable and helpful in any repairs that you might have to get done. However, if you didn't buy from them and just want to get your laptop fixed, going off of my experience, you are better off going somewhere else. My HP Omen laptop was having problems with the cooling fan causing the computer to be unable to boot up. I took it in to see what it would cost to have them fix it for me. When I went in I said "I was hoping you could tell me how much it would cost to fix my laptop." The person who "helped" me responded "I don't know since I don't know what computer it is or what is wrong." You would think they would instead say something like "Of course!" and then start asking questions to find out what computer it is and what is wrong. I instead had to spoon feed him the laptop model and what problem I was experiencing. He then told me it would cost anywhere from $50-$75 in labor (which I hear is pretty standard for computer repair) and anywhere from $20-$180 for the part since he didn't know what part. (Isn't that their job to find out?) Long story short, left there with the unhelpful information, went home and fixed it myself in about 20 minutes since it turned out to be a cable issue.
TL DR: Took my laptop in get an estimate on how much it would cost to fix, left with almost as little information as when I went in, was annoyed enough to...
