We had a GREAT time at the Cabaret Theatre during their performance of "Spring Awakening". I had never been to a BYOB theatre before and was a bit nervous about bringing too much food and wine. My boyfriend and I opted for going to a nearby restaurant for dinner, and then brought light snacks and wine to the show. As soon as we arrived at the theatre, I quickly saw that I shouldn't have been nervous. Patrons were arriving with coolers full of food and multiple bottles of booze. The couple next to us had ordered food to-go and were eating their dinners out of containers.
A couple things to note: the seating is a little cramped and most people had to share tables with other guests. It didn't both us but I imagine that someone a bit claustrophobic might want to be more particular about the seats that they reserve. Also, I'm pretty sure the cabaret doesn't provide drinking glasses so that's something to keep in mind when bringing a bottle of wine.
Most importantly, the performance was INCREDIBLE and was by far one of the most well done musicals I have ever seen outside of the NYC area (if not just as good as some Broadway performances). We will...
Read moreExcellent!! Bridgeport Downtown Cabaret Theater never disappoints - having had been a fan for many, many years I'd gone recently to see their recent production of "Guys and Dolls." As always, it was perfect! The great show, the familiar building and cozy atmosphere, excellent actors ...and I still love being able to bring our own snacks and beverages. We were there the night of the "parking ticket" incident with my car and other patrons' vehicles. We'd been directed where to park by Theater staff, and as it turns out, there was an issue with the City. Admittedly, an upsetting experience but I was told that the theater would put it to rights. As promised, Hugh came through and remedied the situation- which was not an easy process for him. I think my biggest take-away was getting to know these amazing people behind the scenes. They were consistently very professional and kind ... and true to their word, all "Class-Acts" (a "shout-out to Dayquinn, too!) All in all, I think I love the place even more after this experience. I look forward to...
Read moreMy wife and I just returned home after the last 2 + hours at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport, CT where we had the great pleasure of experiencing regional theater at its finest.
The production of the evening was "Hairspray" and it is a show you want to run, not walk, to see. Outstanding performances by Lynette Marshall (playing Tracy Turnblad), G. Lariccia (as Edna Turnblad), Alana Cauthen (as Motormouth Maybelle), Kristin Gagliardi (as Penny Pingleton), Garth West (as Seaweed Stubbs), Eric Regan (as Link Larkin) as well as a fine supporting cast, had the audience clapping enthusiastically throughout the show and standing in ovation at the plays conclusion. Hats off to director Christy McIntosh-Newsom on a superb casting job and wonderful staging.
The tickets are reasonably priced and you can bring dinner and drinks with you.
I am confident that you will not be disappointed in this wonderful regional theater musical...
