Our in-store experience was pleasant. Our salesman was nice and didn’t stalk us while we shopped. However, our positive experience ends there.
We bought a sofa, loveseat, side table, and rising center table in the spring of 2020. With the sofa and loveseat we were stuck with the COVID shipping delays from the manufacturer and told repeatedly that our furniture was “on the truck waiting to be delivered”. Months later (after I had to call repeatedly for updates) I was told that the manufacturer was backed up with parts and it would be several more months before it would ship. We went back to the store and picked out something else and are very happy with that part of the purchase.
When it comes to the tables we’ve had several issues. The rising center table (which I believe cost us around $600) broke on the inside within 6 months of receiving it and so it no longer rises properly. When I called the store to see about getting it replaced under the extended warranty we purchased I was told that the table was a FLOOR MODEL (which we were NOT told when we purchased it) and that we only purchased the warranty on the sofa/loveseat and not the tables. Why wouldn’t we purchase it on all the furniture since the table has a working mechanism (especially if we’re buying a floor model)? It’s ridiculous! So now they refuse to replace a table that broke within 6 months of purchase under the claim that we only purchased a warranty for half off our furniture order. I also noticed later that one of the rollers on the bottom has either been missing this entire time or has now broken off. This table has not even been in our house for 2 years yet.
While we are happy with our sofa/loveseat purchase (even after the delays and “misinformation” from both the manufacturer and Sutherlands), but we feel extremely ripped off and deceived by the shoddy quality and terrible, dismissive attitude when it comes to the table we purchased (under extended warranty as far as we understood at the time of purchase). I doubt we will shop there again or recommend it to others. We feel very deceived and...
Read moreOur bed arrived in a different color and different fabric than the display we ordered. It was missing most of the screws and two side tabs were badly bent right out of the box. We tried to get Sutherlands to exchange it but were told it’s no longer in stock. The manager was extremely rude and arrogant. They did get us the screws off their display but not without a lot of scene creating arguing from the warehouse guy who argued these were the same “they just changed color under the lights”. We had the side piece laying on a display bed next to the bed we thought we ordered. What we received was a taupe chenille with bronzed metal, what was on display was a grey velvet with dark gunmetal gray frame. The manager watched it all and did nothing to intervene, at one point our salesman even tried to stop the warehouse guy loudly exclaiming how these are clearly two different fabrics and different colors. At which point the warehouse kid snarls “well take this to the front because I don’t want to be here late”. (A hour before closing.) The salesman tried to shut the kid up and walk us away but the kid followed still hellbent on arguing with someone. The manager shrugged and said “he’s not my employee”. In the end, the salesman was the only person who tried to make things right. I don’t know if we got the manager on a bad day but we have never been spoken to so rudely, especially for a problem we didn’t create! He actually told us he would be thrilled if we never came back! He will get his wish, we will not be buying from here again as the quality is very poor and the manager and warehouse worker were so very rude and hostile. Pity because the salesman was so very...
Read moreThe perfect furniture shopping experience. After being hounded at the "Big name" furniture stores like Mathis & Bob Mills we found Sutherland's, and what a breath of fresh air!
Upon entering we were greeted, the salesperson introduced himself, and allowed us to peruse the showroom without being our shadow. Being able to speak freely as a family helped us narrow down our choices and eliminate those outside out style and budget.
Once we completed our own self guided tour, he followed up once more which gave us the time to ask questions and receive information only on the furniture in which we were interested. He was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and personable; ultimately he didn't need to "sell" us, though he played a big part in our decision to buy our furniture at Sutherland's.
The prices are reasonable, the in-store experience was everything we wanted, the quality of their selection, while smaller than their competitors, was very well curated. I will definitely recommend family and friends to visit Sutherland's so they don't make the same mistake we did by wasting hours and days at other furniture galleries.
Ask for Kevin if you visit Sutherland's. He has 20 years experience in the furniture industry with a mass amount of knowledge on every brand we considered.
ETA: just received delivery of the furniture we bought today and the delivery guys were professional, organized, and most importantly, PROMPT. They were also so accommodating as we switched the layout of the furniture on them twice. Truly 5 star service all...
