Framers' Workshop — Attraction in Brookline

I have used the Frame Shop for years (most of the time have paintings framed not DIY). Have always been very happy with the shop’s service and their quality. Last week I sent in another job. It was a canvas oil painting. The girl handling the transaction was less than friendly, which is very unusual. That in itself was not a big deal. We agreed that the painting would go on a floating frame without glass. When the work came back, I found the painting was pasted with four small strips of double-sided tapes, each not aligned to the corners but about 1-2” from the corners which made the painting’s edges not even taped down to the board snugly.

This was an unusually low quality job. I am very disappointed.

I am a huge fan in supporting local businesses. But the latest unpleasant attitude and the low quality work make me think I will probably go elsewhere from now on.

I did not pick up the painting myself otherwise I would have said something with a shop manager. But after some consideration, I think it is fair to post a review reflecting my experience.

What a great find! I purchases an old Boston map at SoWa and the seller recommended this place to me. I went in around 3:30/4PM on a Saturday and it was very busy. There were two customers being helped and there were about another 3 or so in front of me. I waited for about a half hour or so but was able to start peeking at the frames I had in mind. When I got to the counter they had just put a sign up that said the DIY portion was closed for the day. I was afraid I'd have to come back again and start all over, but the guy helping me assured me that he could take my order that way they could get everything cut and then I could just come right back in with my order during the week to move on to that part. He was helpful in giving me advice on what would work for the size map I had, what looked good, what wasn't going to cost me three million dollars. I came back Monday night at 6PM and got right to work. It was very simple and straightforward and the team was really helpful each step of the way. (Don’t mind my poorly aligned hanging job) This is the coolest spot! I got 5 pieces professionally matted for a very reasonable price while I waited. Sean made sure we picked mat sizes compatible with standard-sized frames (this way I could use frames I bought elsewhere to save $$). I also made a dumb error that meant that my transaction had to be re-processed, and he was super chill about it 🙏 great customer service!
