There are so many great things to say about this bookshop and their staff. I stop in maybe every couple of weeks, but I’m going to share my specific experience from yesterday.
So, I had seen an interview with a female author on the morning news yesterday and after running into the post office I thought I’d run in and grab her new book. I’ve never read any of her other books and I could not remember her name. I thought I’d just google the show I was watching and they’d list her as a guest. I COULD NOT FIND HER NAME! I stood outside the bookstore for maybe five minutes trying to figure out the name of the book or author and I couldn’t. I finally walked in (mask fully secured) and just let the two ladies at the counter know the deal. I said, I know this is gonna be a challenge and if you can’t help I’ll just have to do more research on my own. I explain the kind of book, it’s a female author, white cover, pink writing (I think), maybe has the word “she” in the title, it’s a newer release. BAM! Those ladies found that book! Since I’m there pretty frequently I know that the staff really knows their stuff, but I was still surprised that they could figure out what book I was talking about based on my limited description and no actual information to look it up in their system. The bookshop is so cute and fun and it’s layout is easy to shop. They’ve got really great books for kids (Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls). All that said, the staff really makes this shop what it is. They’re all so knowledgeable and helpful. If you’re a book lover, this is the place for you! Support small,...
Read moreVery disappointing experience at this bookstore. Our family was at Peddler's Village where the vibe is gentle and cool. Not the case at this bookstore.
We were each collecting books to purchase. I and my wife had several each in our hands. Our 4 year-old and 2 year-old were told (by us) they could each pick one book. Our kids were both sitting on the floor in the area where they have children's books reading theirs while they waited for us to finish up. We're all standing there together, within arms distance of each other.
An employee comes up to my 2 year-old who is happily flipping through her book. Without addressing the two parents of the child who were standing there, he leans down and says to a 2 year-old: "Stop flipping those pages. You'll ruin it for someone who might actually want to buy this."
Of course, frightened that a stranger would be so aggressive with her, she just gets very sad and closes the book.
That's the story that happened. You be the judge if you want to bring your kids there (they sell kids books) and spend your money there.
We will never again set foot in this store.
WHO ACCOSTS A 2 YEAR-OLD in a CHILDREN'S book store, you might ask? Well, at least one employee here thinks that's the move.
What a...
Read moreI completely forgot to leave my review when my friends and I visited last month for my bachelorette party. This is a well-stocked, decently sized indie bookstore! Located right in the adorable Peddler's Village, the atmosphere inside and outside the shop make it a must-see location to visit. We went the first weekend of May, where Peddler's Village was holding its annual strawberry festival. All of the shops we went into had something strawberry-themed to celebrate the occasion, and Lahaska Bookshop was no exception. They had little strawberry display tables, and a selfie station with friendly strawberry cutouts. Like I said before, they are well stocked, and I had no problem locating a few books that have been on my TBR shelf. When I come visit the New Hope area again, this place is a...
