Elmwood Market — Attraction in Buffalo

This place can definitely be a 4-5 star market if it where managed better. I understand the saying, Good help is hard to find" but the search should continue. The gentlemen at the register are just that; Gentlemen. They are the reason why I still go back but unfortunately that great experience ends when you venture over to the deli and hot foods end. I've order from cold to hot sandwiches from here and it's a hit or miss experience. Sometimes you get what you asked for and sometimes you don't. To make a long story short; the worst would be the first time I decided to try they're breakfast sandwich. I ordered 2 sausage, egg, hash brown and cheese sandwiches and in return I got one with everything I asked for and the other without the hash brown; ok I could deal with that! I sat down and took a bite and Crunch! In an egg sandwich there are two things I could not deal with and that's egg shells or an over fried egg to the point where its crispy! Behold both sandwiches had burnt eggs in them to the point where I would of never put it into someones sandwich. I was so discussed that I lost my appetite and threw them away. I still go here because its on my way to work and as I said the cashier's service is excellent. Occasionally I'll order a sandwich if I see this particular person behind the deli because he has yet to destroy my sandwich and I have hope for the rest of them but I don't order anything...

This used to be a great place. The new owners took over a while ago and everything went downhill. They prices went way up for far less food. The kitchen staff suck. The best ones left. These new ones always mess up orders and serve half cooked food. Absolutely disgusting. Oh and let's not forget the already prepared food. Three times I got stuff and it was spoiled. Milk is often spoiled too. Last week I took 4 milks up to the counter and said these are expired. Went back this week and all the milk was back on the shelf. I took it back up again and said you can't sell this. I brang it up once and you put it back. It's spoiled. It's going to make people sick. It's almost 2 weeks past expiration. So if you shop here pay attention to the dates. They simply don't care about the people. It's all about making the money. Also, let it be known, the cooks do not wear hair nets or gloves. They go outside to smoke and never wash their hands. They are constantly touching everything, scratching their heads, wipes their hands on their aprons and not once washing their hands. Falling downhill. Food has fallen off since previous owner left. Can not keep help. On Easter Sunday during remodeling the grill and deep fryer were moved and the sides of the grill and underneath had a third of a inch of grease due to negligent cleaning. Same for the deep fryer. The walls were grease covered and the overhead exhaust fans panels were dripping grease and dirty from lack of cleaning. Items in the freezer french fry and onion ring boxes were stored on the floor. Ants were coming in under the front doors. It needs to be subject to a health inspection. Some food workers do not wear hairnets as required. Owners who are usually absent except maybe once or twice a week hire 18-21 year olds to operate checkout one of which was recently written up by State Liquor Agents during a undercover compliance check for failing to check identification for a tobacco sale.
