Revised 12/01/2021.
I've been bringing my Corgis here for about a year and I have added a star. We pay the annual fee at a couple other parks but almost always choose to take our dogs to Alimagnet. Sure, it's the closest to us but there's also a couple other things I've noticed that make this park better than the others [1] - Ample waste bins. There are a lot scattered around the park. I'm pretty sure these are maintained (emptied) by patrons and volunteers so do your part and take them to the entrance if they're full. Most other parks have bins only at the entrance/exit. [2] - Heated shelters for humans. If you're the type that likes to stand in one place and be somewhat comfortable on those cold and windy days, it's definitely a plus. [3] - Occasional events. Sometimes you'll be able to buy ice cream for yourself and/or your furry companion...bonus! [4] - People working in the background to keep the park clean, safe, and hospitable. I don't know who you all are but thank you.
I have read some other reviews and I don't necessarily agree that Alimagnet is less clean or that owners are less mindful of their pets. Good practice at any park is to clean up a mess if you see one even if it's not yours. If you didn't realize that it's not always possible to know what your dog is doing 100% of the time, you're relatively new to dog ownership :) I have experienced a couple dogs getting overly excited but wouldn't classify it as a pattern or unique to this park.
There's a 'small' dog meeting area at the entrance and a 0.4 mile fenced in loop around a small pond with a sign posted that the water can become stagnate and dangerous to dogs during warmer months. Because the water area is separate from the rest of the park, it is possible to keep your dog out of that area altogether which is nice if they lack willpower like mine do. Opposite the entrance, there's a larger area for more energetic or bigger dogs to play and fetch; this is usually devoid of any grass as it gets trampled daily so on wet days, prepare your dog bath ahead of time. Gates by the entrance and outside the large dog play area help contain your dog but the overall area is small enough that you don't have to worry about completely losing track of your furry friend. There are usually free pet waste bags supplied by a local pet store and I've gone at various times and haven't encountered overcrowding.
Also, it's (1) FREE and (2) convenient and thus the perfect place for my stubby 6 month old corgi who is now over a year and my new 6...
Read moreHeard and read great things about this park. Finally was able to make it out here with a friend and before we're in the gate a women is making comments and just being rude. Why? Because I wouldn't let my dog roam free without me even in the park until my friend and his dog made their way over from the parking lot. Ok not a big deal just one rude person. We take them down the stairs straight through the gate so they can sit in the water to cool down. After they had their fill we walked up and were greeted by a mini-shnauzer and it's owner. My dog being an 8 month old puppy was very interested in the shnauzer since he has only really met large breeds. Back and forth sniffing and my dog starts following them thinking he met a new friend to which the other owner yells out "Control you're dog, man." To which I responded "they are dogs, they are going to do dog things. Sorry if it's bothering you that much." After I said that his dog starts trying to bite mine to which I yelled for my dog to come over to me, which he did within 20 seconds. The other owner walks away saying more rude things thinking he had somehow won a one sided exchange of insults and the like. Whatever, people can be ignored not a huge deal.
Anyways, I put my dog on his leash to not have to deal with more rude people on this very hot and irritable day. Everything's great we chit chat with some owners in the small breed area and continue walking and having a nice day.... until we made it to the gazebo where the woman from earlier is sitting with a few other owners. She sees my dog is now on a leash and exclaims, "Oh he's on a leash?!? You better keep your dogs away!". And afterwords my friends dog was bitten and then chased by another dog who's owners stood there and just said "No."
The park paths are very clean, besides some bad owners not picking up poop. The pond was muddy, but clean near the entrance and was completely covered in algae on the main side. There are clean-up bags free to take everywhere and large water bowls near the gazebo. The park itself was very nice, but beware the people who frequent there, they...
Read moreJust moved back to MN after being in San Diego for a year and decided to take my pup here since there’s lots of good reviews. She’s super friendly and likes playing with other dogs. We entered the main path area and took her leash off so she could sniff around. A lady with her pup was behind us and our pups were sniffing each other and were being playful. Right behind both of us was another owner who didn’t have her dog leashed. Her dog runs up to my pup and the other lady’s pup and they’re all sniffing, when all of a sudden, the dog attacked my pup for no reason. The owner was so far behind and didn’t even try calling her dog, who was on top of my pup growling, while my pup was crying. I picked my pup up while the other dog was trying to get her. The owner eventually catches up to where we are (she didn’t even try running over to control her dog) and didn’t even apologize for her dog attacking mine for literally no reason. Absolutely pathetic and disrespectful. If your dog isn’t friendly, don’t bring them to a DOG park??? At least apologize? Her dog was white (looked kind of like a husky), so if you come to this dog park, BE AWARE!!! Absolutely ridiculous and rude as hell. I hope someone reports her and she gets banned. We left right after that and will not...
