I brought my Dyson vacuum cleaner in a few weeks ago for a repair. The workers immediately bad mouthed Dyson vacuum cleaners and told me they didn't know if they could get the part and said they only last a couple of years (I bought my vacuum cleaner in 2018 and this was the first time I had a problem with it). This was after initially telling the vacuum wasn't working because my filters were dirty, which they weren't. They gave me an estimate of $140 which included $60 for two new filters. When I told them I didn't want the filters, they said Ok, but not ordering new filters would void the warranty for their repair. I'm not sure why filters would void the warranty for replacing the hose. After this the salesperson tried to sell me a new vacuum cleaner that he said was the best around. After a 15 minute sell job I asked how much it was and he told me $1,600. He said it had a 20 year warranty and two top of line Dyson's would cost that much and not last as long.
After not hearing from them for almost two weeks, I called to get an update. They said they were having a hard time finding the part and would be in touch. After another couple days I went in to check on the status and they still hadn't worked on it, so I picked it up. They charged me a $20 deposit when I brought it in just to check it in.
A co-worker told me about the Dyson repair store in Edina so I brought it there. Even though my vacuum was out of warranty, they said they would repair it and just charge me for the part which was around $20. Not only that, they had the part and fixed it in 15 minutes. I wish I had just brought it there in the...
Read moreI am reluctantly leaving this review, but have had repeated problems. I was really hopeful about this shop for sewing machine repairs since it was recommended by a shop that did great work, but it was going out of business. Chavis Vac & Sew worked on two sergers for me. The first I had purchased “out of the box”, but new from the other store. Chavis was checking it out and cleaned it up before I got it. Another serger I brought in to be fixed since I used the wrong needle. When I picked up the first one, it appeared that it was serging well. The sample looked good. That is until I brought it home and realized the tension wasn’t correct on the bottom side of the fabric. When I got the second one back, they charged me for the repair AND complete maintenance on the machine. Not what I asked for, and it wasn’t on the service slip. Still had to pay for it. But if they did the work, I felt obligated. The serging sample on the machine looked like it was stitching well. I just tried it on a project and I realized the tension isn’t right on this one too. Looks good on the top, but not the bottom. Now that I think about it, it is stitching exactly how it was when I brought it in. It makes me wonder if they repaired the needle mechanism. Lesson learned: find a different shop and check both sides of the sample stitches. So, I don’t recommend this shop for...
Read moreI started off by going to a national chain store to purchase a sewing machine. The atmosphere of the place was very negative and despite the fact they sold fabric and sewing machines, no one could answer any of my questions. I went to a big box retailer and purchased a machine and ended up returning it because the most crucial piece of the machine was made out of plastic. I found Chavis Vacuum and Sewing on the internet. I live in Minneapolis and drove out to Burnsville. I live on a very low income and didn't think I could afford anything in the store. A young man named Trevor was very helpful. I got what I needed, CUSTOMER SERVICE! I'm a beginner sewist and he was very patient in explaining the different machines and what they do. He did demos on several machines. Trevor was very very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of my questions. I did end up buying a sewing machine. It was a mechanical one, in my budget but I saw my dream machine. If I actually learn how to sew on the machine that I bought, I will give it to my daughter. She is leaning how to sew too. I plan on going back in about a year and getting a really nice Janome. If you're looking for a machine, this is the place to go; they will take care of you at Chavis Vacuum and Sewing. ...
