I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CINEMA TO ANYONE WITH A DISABILITY WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE A LEPER. I lived in Cambridge for 20+ years, and this was my favorite neighborhood cinema. My 20 year run just ended due to an unpleasant experience we had there in September 2015. My friends & I go to the movies every week or so. One of them is disabled due to a horrible, permanent back injury & cannot sit for long periods of time. We have gone to this theater several times, as we like the indie flicks. This time, we bought our tickets to "Learning to Drive" 1.5 hours before the movie start time. When I purchased them, I explained my friend's situation (and stressed that she had to stand up a lot during the movie) and asked if we could reserve a handicap seat for her. I was told that they don't reserve them but no one every uses them, so getting one wouldn't be a problem. We returned an hour later to find that all the seating for the disabled was taken. Given this we sat about 5 rows from the back & my friend took the aisle seat. She had to stand up about 4-5 times during the movie - and made sure she went in the far back corner, so she wouldn't impede anyone's view or access. She left her handbag in her chair so no one would think she was up to suspicious activity. She was treated very badly by an overly aggressive, hostile employee who kept telling her to sit down because she was blocking the fire access (she wasn't, trust me). She explained to him that she was disabled & we had cleared this with the ticket seller in advance, but he didn't care. Rather than go out & check with the manager or ticket seller, he basically harassed her each time she tried to stand up in the back of the theatre, until she was in tears. She missed a good portion of the movie due to his constant interruptions & was made to feel bad about her disability. It is hard enough for my friend to have a quality life with her disability or to enjoy outings on a limited income, but this man ruined what would have otherwise been a really fun night. I emailed the corporate headquarters, but never received a response. After posting the above review on their facebook page, I heard from their manager, Howie, who promised to apologize to my friend. It's been over a month & she still hasn't heard from him. I made it very clear that we weren't looking for free tickets - and only asked that he apologize to my friend & train his staff a little better so this doesn't happen to another disabled person. Nothing. Given this, I am sharing my friend's experience in hopes that no other disabled person has to experience such poor treatment at the hands of their misinformed & poorly...
Read moreWe came here a few weeks ago scoping out the place as somewhere we might take my husband's disabled brother and I guess it's lucky we went first because the theater is infested with mice! Sure it looks cool, and it's nice and spacious in the lobby area. (But there's isn't even a station to butter/salt your own popcorn! When we asked for extra butter at the counter our corn ended up absolutely swimming in it!) But the screening room itself was fairly cramped and handicapped seating is only right up in front of the screen as far as we could tell. My husband thought he saw something move during the movie but thought it was just the lighting from the screen... And as the credits were rolling, after I'd already put my stuff on the floor during the movie and put it back up on my lap, I saw it too. Mice! Just running through the seats! Upon further inspection we saw mouse turds all around! And you know how mice are, I'm sure they climb into the seats when nobody's in them too. They probably work as the "cleaning crew", eating all the dropped popcorn because surely no human is cleaning this place. And there we were, sitting in these dirty seats and eating popcorn and licking our fingers. Disgusting! We had to wash all our clothes and coats too. Husband told one of the staff about the mice as we were exiting and she did not seem to care at all. Just said "we're working on it", and indicated one lone mouse trap in the hall. We paid over $70 for two tickets, popcorn and a couple drinks to sit in filth for two hours. Very...
Read moreI don’t know what this place has against carbonated water but they have issues that cut deep. Several months ago I went and wanted soda water with my popcorn. The server informed me that I’ll have to pay the same price for the soda water as I would for a soda (with syrup) I said okay, with absolutely no reservations about it. I am happy to pay for carbon gas being injected into my water. She gets my popcorn and then asks again what drink I want and I repeat soda water and she almost has a cow! She jerked around and exclaimed, impatiently, “I’m going to HAVE to charge you full price for this water.” Having stated soda water twice I respond with, “why the hell do you care that I pay for soda water? I know what I want, why can’t I have the soda water?” She was taken aback and said I could have it and didn’t gripe about it to me anymore. Now this time, a few weeks ago, I go back and they no longer serve soda water. I think it was the same crazy lady who served me before but I’m not entirely positive. I bought a large soda cup and filled it with tap water from the drinking fountain. I like carbonated water. The carbon adds a sharp note to the taste. I do not drink soda and I don’t understand, if they have the technology to provide soda water, why they refuse. Neither do I understand that crazy servers exasperation at me ordering soda water. Strange place. The theater is okay but I’m going to go to places that offer drinks...
