Mediocre Inventory : The selection of the clothing products were limited, and, the color choices are mostly black, blue or burgundy, for men. They are a little overpriced for what they are (i.e, Champion) . Jersey tops $60, with printed logos, hats $30, then, lined windbreakers $90~$130. If they did not have the MIT logo, the quality is typical of which would be only found in the discount stores. The store had a poor mirror that would make one look odd and it did not help for purchasing garments. I recall the design has been mostly same of boring, over 2 decades, and not as pleasant as Harvard Coop products, and, many garments and souvenirs were stocked without price tags. as a retail store 3/5 at best.
Staff Training Issue : The older staff are polite and pleasant, throughout the visit, but the young part-time workers were aloof, but, still polite when we engaged a chat with one of them. However, one Indian girl at the cashier was very rude, during the checkout, showing zero respect for the older alumnus, when she did not have a proper answer for my inquiry, she would not ask for help, but turned instantly sullen, frowning her face to us, repeating something else a few more times as if it would become an answer. She was poorly trained, unprofessional, and when I complained, she showed some psychotic outburst then I realized she had a medical-level high anxiety. And she wasn't apologetic but even attempted to beg other staff to join her. That was bullying, and, it wasn't acceptable. And, when the other two staff including her senior did not agree with her, she even cried to reveal her passive-aggressive behaviors that did not work out as she had planned. Then she stormed out crying, creating a really bad scene. I explained to her senior staff what had really happened as the staff could not see her rude facial expressions and comments toward us, and I asked the other staff and she also confirmed what I described of her ( I appreciate her honesty) then the senior staff apologized sincerely. Only then, we walked away from the whole bizarre scene.
I advise the visitors should stay away from this individual during the checkout, especially no one else is there to witness her odd...
Read moreI visited MIT Coop at Kendall Square on a Saturday afternoon. While the nearby MIT Press Bookstore was closed for the day, having MIT Coop open provided a great alternative for anyone stopping by to shop.
The store offers a wide variety of souvenirs and books, catering to both tourists and locals. As a book lover, I was happy to browse their collection, though I found myself hoping for an even greater selection. However, given the store's relatively compact space, the range of books available is still sufficient for casual exploration and quick purchases.
Overall, MIT Coop is a convenient and charming stop for anyone in the area, whether you're looking for books, gifts, or simply a place to soak in the academic atmosphere of Kendall Square. It's definitely...
