Always hunting for something unusual, unique, at any price-point; ...for "primitives" or anything else nostalgic---or any collectible you never knew you wanted until seen. Part of the draw is the shared experience and appreciation of any collection--- among guests and consigner, even ownership...
When the experience is off, it is simply off...
As "curator", ownership simply failed.
As "employee", the experience was unfriendly, cold, and rude... Even sadly unwelcoming. Though checking out the floors and areas alone, I could not help but notice open/obvious eye-rolling and lurking, almost trolling of a family of tourists (two families actually). Not a family-friendly place at all ---so please control any laughter from your kids.
This venue has so much potential, but management unfortunately opts to obscure some hit or miss pieces with a volume of Wayfair-Michaels-quality, "lower-end" reproduction misc.--- typically found at Michaels or online. Having read other similar reviews/comments, hopefully this trend will end... Better management of space and selections in general clearly needed for what is otherwise--- a great/historic building (...perhaps my expectations of an "award winning" venue were premised on older-accolades.
Avoid the basement of over-priced, not really vintage clothing, altogether. Since when did an antique mall play Ross or Marshalls?
Also read other reviews about rude service + an apparent "you break it and you buy it" lecture (...both of which I unfortunately overheard and witnessed which seems to be a theme). Bad timing on my part and hopefully and new/better experience on a different day in Fall. Everyone has a off day. Maybe customer service and inventory will sort itself out over the next...
Read moreIts kind of sad to call this is a hidden gem, considering that it's on one of the main streets in Carlisle, and the average person driving through cannot tell what glorious treasures are behind the windows of this restored department store. Not only are there a wide variety of vendors and artists with new and old and restored merchandise, but the building itself is something of a marvel in terms of how they beautifully restored it. You can just imagine what it was like to shop here in its hay day. While there are plenty of steps to climb if you are able, there is an elevator, and a ultra clean restroom on the 2nd or 3rd floor. The only upgrade missing to this piece of history is air conditioning, and having visited there in the middle of summer, it was HOT. Even though the description says that parking is free, we were hesitant to park in the city parking lot because of all the signs that tell you otherwise. We did not get a ticket. The bonus round to this is the Carlisle Flea Market which is basically the back room of the department store. It has a basement feel to it and is filled with yard sale type of things, but also has a bakery and a food stand. Loved this place, and can't wait to go back, now that I am more familiar...
Read moreBeautiful store, great place to window shop and very well put together and organized however there are many things there that are overpriced for what they are and some things that are not real antiques. It would be different if they were expensive and rare items but a lot of items there you could get for a maximum of 20$ is at least twice the price. There are also a lot of nice pieces of furniture that are way too much for what they are, for example this small wooden drawer I really wanted was 170$ when in reality it’s only worth at the MOST 70$ and at a reasonable price it would be 50$. It’s a shame everything is so expensive because I’m sure they would make more sales if they had reasonable priced items. It would be understandable if all items were unused/ lightly used and at top quality but that unfortunately is not the case, there are some items that are worn and some furniture that are lightly banged up or fairly dirty. Anyways if you’re looking for cheap and nice this is not the place. Still cool to...
