Unlike the double and triple decker nighttime ranges you see in the movies San Diego isn't a city that never sleeps or has a shortage in space so this is about as convenient as it gets for golfers.
Not only is it spacious as in plenty of room to set up, practice, stretch, but the actual hitting field is huge. Having the hill on the upslope keeps guys from bombing the local business and if you can do that you're a monster. I've seen guys who hit 350+ not take it to the house. What I hate about hitting down slopes is it doesn't give you true accuracy, neither does hitting up hill, but I'd rather error low than high, plus no need to worry about random strays or your high loft sandy wedge shots pinging back. They just recently rematted the cages for a more firm and comfortable stance and consistent hitting area. Their ball machine is still old. Buy a ticket or token from the pro shop and use it to purchase, so no cash is processed at the machine. It would be nice to simply use plastic though. Service at the shop is pretty good, a tad pricey for simply work, but I do like it. Their demo days lately have been chaotic pissing contests. Not enough parking, not enough staff, too many vendors and sometimes you just want some peace and quiet.
Being a public, easily visibile, inexpensive overall range definitely brings the antiquated. The kids running around, the people on cell phones and so on. I'm not saying I'm any good, but at least the freeway doesn't answer phone calls 10 feet from me in my backswing. I recommend bringing headphones to concentrate for your own sanity. I get that there are benches for spectators, but they really should be much further away, like in the parking lot. This isn't family fun center either so leave the rug rats at home.
Parking kind of sucks, maybe it's the people who go here, but I'm fairly certain the spaces are small as well. We all have our fun smacking balls at the caged animal scooping up balls.
The afternoon and evenings can be busy, so come later. Midday can be windy and early afternoon and evening can be bright. Pray for overcast.
They are strict on the gates close time, they will tow your car if locked in and they do give fair warning on their timelines. Service at the pro shop is pretty good. Being so convenience you can rocket a bucket of 140 balls in under an hour and not miss a beat of the rest of your life so for that it's a gem,...
Read moreGreat place. Mats in great shape. Always open stall. Get a card, put money on it, the more you deposit, the more they give you credit for. Like $450 gives you $600 on credit. Maybe $400 gives you $500? Something like that. Then you use the card to pay for buckets of balls. But added bonus is if you go during the week during certain happy hour times on buckets, they'll give you like a 25% discount on the bucket price as well so if you load up your card and go during happy hour you're basically playing for free! Haha!
Update: Absolutely love this place. Reigns card bonus pricing: The range has a range card where I think if you put like $400 on it it gives you another 40% of credit. So if you get the card and put $400 on it you end up with $560 worth of credit. That's pretty good by itself but then, the range has three happy hour days every week where for 2 hours they give you 25% off the cost. That math is a little bit complicated for me but it sounds like if you come during the happy hours and you maximize the extra credits given then you're getting balls at about half off the normal price. Okay did some quick math, if you maximize the credit by depositing $400 on the card, you get $560 worth of credit and a large bucket of balls {105 balls} on happy hour cost $10.50 so that's 53 and some change buckets of balls. Large bucket of balls non HH price is $14, so it would cost you $746 to get the same amount of balls if you come at normal times without any kind of range card credit. So by depositing the $400 you get 87% bonus if you come during range card happy hours. If you cannot make happy hour times, then using your maximum credit on the range card will get you about 12 more large buckets (+44%) of balls for the same money. Pretty...
Read moreThey tried tricking customers with their clearance sale. It was so disappointing shopping here. The sign says "clearance sale, buy one get one 50% off lowest ticketed price". I chose two shirts on clearance. $24.99 originally $39.99 $34.99 originally $49.99 Based on the sale I'm expecting the price to be $47.49. She manually types it in and it's $62.48. When I ask why she says it's based off the original price of one and the sale price of the other. I show her the sign amd it doesn't say original price and I explain that there is no savings and it actually costs more than just paying the clearance price for both which would be $59.98.
So she literally asks "well what would you like to do, how much do you want to pay". I say I would like to pay for the promotional sale price. The other two guys in there are also confused and they all tell me how everyone has been confused and all the customers have been complaining for the last 2 days. Isn't there a manager that can explain these basic sales and how BOGO works for the clearance prices. I leave without getting the shirts and a couple that walked out with me says they've been ripping off customers by over charging and making people think they are getting a sale. He says he's been golfing there for years and it's always been confusing so he highly recommended I don't buy anything from the shop and just go to the driving range portion. Definitely beware of the prices and sales if...
