I love this place. It’s so unique and centrally located, there’s so much to do both in this hotel and on the great historic street. As long as you’re out there on the days where things are open. ||Everyone else focuses on the amenities so I’m just going to focus on noise. My wife is a light sleeper and loves this hotel. But we’re careful about which rooms we pick. If you’re looking into minimize the train, I the king rooms which are located upfront or alternatively one of the twin bunk rooms. That way you’ll hear less noise from the train. You can also call the hotel and request a queen room without a window but instead with a skylight. Those cut down on the noise too but you will need to call the hotel to reserve that room, otherwise you’ll get thrown into a random queen room. ||I prefer being in a king room over the theater because once the movie is over it’s the quietest place in the hotel. But if you go to bed before 10:30 PM and don’t want to hear the movie then maybe it’s not for you. But if you plan on seeing that movie or if you stay up after the movies over, 100% love it, it’s where my wife likes to stay. ||The twin bunk rooms are a bit darker than the king because there’s no wall windows but they do have a skylight window. My 13yo nephew loved it. One of the twin bunk rooms does not have a sink so if you’re staying in a twin room bunk room make sure you’ve got one with a sink. The only rooms that I think are really off the list are the queen rooms facing the railroad tracks (and a few back ) because it’s so darn loud when that train goes by. But if you stay in a queen room with a window the train is going to be louder than staying in either a king room or the twin room. ||And yes, I there are some queen room skylight windows only so that’ll dampen the train noise. And a foam earplugs are not your thing, bring something that...
Read moreFirst, know what you're getting in to here. This is a historic club, started in 1908, so it is not your local Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express.
Now, the real review.
In one space you get: Movie Theater Restaurant 2 bars Hotel Pool Hall Shuffleboard
If you are staying in the hotel, the movies are included.
The whole place is just across the street from the train depot, which is fitting, because it is where Roy Gardner was captured, the infamous train robber (not the aircraft hijacker)
The bar and restaurant staff are friendly and fast. The food is great, the beer is quite tasty with seasonals. They also have their own wine, spirits, and ciders as well.
I spent two nights in the hotel and I only heard the train during the day. They did include earplugs in every bedside table, just in case. The pool hall and movies elbowed their way into my room a little more, but I sleep through worse on a regular basis. The bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom down the hall was no trouble at all, it was always super clean too.
The walls have so many stories, every wall has a story painted on it. I could spend a day just reading the stories.
Since McMenamins also owns The Crystal Ballroom and several other properties, there are several posters featured throughout on the walls.
The movie theater is cozy, and you can order food and drinks from the "Tourist Bar" to enjoy during your movie. You're not going to have the newest blockbusters, but you will get that second chance to watch the movie you meant to catch in theaters, but missed.
If you're into antiques, you're in downtown Centralia, a place with a high antique shop density.
I highly recommend this "resort" if you're in the area. I will be back, this will be a must-go for any future trips between Seattle...
Read moreWell, I've waited far too long to write this review so please bear with me if I ramble on a bit. I visited Centralia and area for the first time back in mid-January as my best friend lives there and asked if I'd like to see Washington. The first night I'm in town he decides to take me to "this pub that I may like" for supper and a drink. To say I liked this place is probably the understatement of the century. One, I'm a huge history buff and a fan of old buildings especially ones that keep a good chunk of their originality. Two, the atmosphere is absolutely phenomenal. I'm not a "bar person" by any means but if I didn't live 13 hours away and in a different country, I would definitely be a regular lol. Last, but definitely not least is the staff. I haven't experienced service and hospitality like that in years, from hearing the story of the rum running tunnel that starts at the back of the billiard hall to everyone being amazingly friendly, it was amazing. We ended up dressing up for the 20's themed birthday party the next evening and had an absolute blast, had supper there once more before I left and bought more souvenirs than any other place I visited that whole week. My friend that lives there has been collecting coasters for me and brought them up last month during a quick visit and wow did it ever make me miss my time there. Other than spending time with my friend, the Olympic was truly my favorite part of the trip. I hope to be back sooner rather than later and will be bringing my wife along, I think a night or two in the hotel is in order. Thank you all so much for showing this Canuck one hell of...
