What a gem of a place and a sweet stay! An old historic building brought back to honor its former glory while taking into account our more modern needs. Beautiful hardwood floors and nicely decorated for the 1920’s era in which it was built. As their website states, the Centralia Square Hotel is a family owned business that focuses on customer service and providing the unique experience of stepping back in time. If you embrace this idea, this is an amazing place to stay that is very reasonable price. Yet, if you are looking for the feel and amenities of a commercial chain hotel, not sure this experience would be for you. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. The hotel, which has the most amazing terrace overlooking beautiful Washington Park across the street, is only three stories and there are both stairs and an elevator available to take you to your room. Stairs are easiest, though the elevator is helpful if you have a lot of bags or aren’t able to get around easily. It’s a bit slow moving (as expected in an old building) and you can get on it from the parking lot level which is nice (though you may need your room key. Can’t remember.) The customer service here was fantastic! Spoke quite a bit with the ladies at the front desk. Sherry, in particular, was helpful and personable. In the mornings you’ll find coffee and tea down in the parlor next to the registration area, but if you’d prefer your morning wake up in your room, they will deliver and set up a small coffee pot in your room. Just ask them when you check in. We made coffee in our room, then grabbed more from the parlor and took it out on the terrace, which was really enjoyable. I loved loved loved that there were no TVs in the rooms (although you could also check one of those out and have it delivered to your room, if that was important to you), though we did take advantage of their Wi-Fi. Originally we selected the King Suite with the marble shower and private loo since more often than not, I do get up in the middle of the night to go. We were delighted with these absolutely gorgeous rooms until we opened the curtains in the bedroom and saw that the terrace was right outside our window. Normally would not have been an issue except we knew a wedding party had rented the deck that evening and, since we’re not night owls, we were concerned about potential noise keeping us awake. In the end, they didn’t use the deck and it would not have been an issue. Sherry was happy to help us change rooms. We ended up in a standard room (#307) of a queen bed, closet, and small sink. They provided soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and towels, as well as a bathrobe in the closet. I appreciated the bathrobe. Our room was only a door down from the shared shower and since I didn’t mind if someone saw me in it, I wore it back to our room from the shower so I could dress there. I was okay using a shared shower and toilet, though since I did have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, I’ll consider a room with a private loo next time. Berry Fields restaurant has the most amazing breakfasts and pies. In fact, we’ve often done day trips down here just for breakfast! Can’t comment on the food in the other on premises restaurant since we walked into town for other meals. I’ll tell you…if I was younger and looking for a place to have a small wedding, I would consider this. You and your guests can book the entire hotel, and have both the wedding and reception here. In a nutshell, I like eclectic places and don’t need all the pomp and circumstance of chain hotels. The price was right. Yes, there were trains and noise from the street traffic, but you’ll get that regardless of where you stay if you’re downtown. And yes, they do provide earplugs! If I come to town for another overnighter, I would definitely...
Read moreI was looking for a hotel near the Centralia Amtrak Station and liked what the property offered. Checked in late Sunday evening and was asked to prepay for the two days I had requested. Was given the key and a quick description of the property. Told it was myself and one other couple here. Said it’s slow during the week. By time I got to my room and unpacked I went down stairs but the gentleman that checked me in had left and everything was locked up.
The next morning I went downstairs at 9:30 and asked the lady working behind the front desk if I could have a late check-out. She looked at me like I was a leper and asked why. When I told her that I had a 3:50 train to Portland and that the station was not open between trains. She said they had to have the rooms cleaned by 3:00 pm. I asked if I could get a refund for Monday’s stay if I could find another property that would a later check out and she again gave me a strange look. She did say no one will give you a late check out but feel free to ask.
She said she would have to check with “Eric” to see if he would agree to my request. I told her that since 11:00 am was check out I would like to know before this time so I could be out before if “Eric” agreed. She promised that she “would let me know before then.” While I was waiting I contacted the local IHG property who offered me a 2:00 pm check out.
I went down stairs three different times to talk to her but she was involved in conversation with individuals in the office - since they push weddings my assumption was they were clients who would provide more income to the property than I was - so she ignored me. Since it had past 11:00 am when I went out for lunch I stopped by the front desk to state my disappointment. A different lady came out and asked if she could help me.
Since she also had a couple in the office I simply said no thank and that I would post my review online. (I actually think it might have been Heather of the “Heather and Eric Morrow” listed on the business cards and brochures left in the lobby. When I came back from lunch the cage was down and no one was around.
Bottom line; the property is very nice - being a 100 y/o property. I was able to talk to Eric this evening and expressed my frustration that the lady never got back to me before 11:00 am. Given all this I still would recommend...
Read moreNeil and Jodi own two amazing wedding venue locations: Centralia Grand Hotel and Ballroom and Aerie Ballroom. The locations are a block away from each and we utilized both for our wedding.
After an extensive hunt of wedding venues, none of which we loved/could agree on, we took the drive down to Centralia to tour the hotel and the Aerie. Neil met us at the front desk and showed us around the hotel first. His friendliness and professionalism shined through immediately. He is so warm and inviting. The hotel is ridiculously beautiful and Neil gave us a history of the building and all the charm and love that has gone into keeping it in impeccable condition.
We then walked down the street to the Aerie. The second we walked in, we knew this was our venue. Neil and Jodi have done an incredible job of maintaining the almost 100-year-old building, respecting all its history and charm. We paid our deposit and signed our contract that day.
We blocked out almost all the rooms at Centralia Grand Hotel for ourselves, our parents, and our bridal parties. Upon checking in, we were greeted with warm smiles and complimentary champagne. Every staff member we encountered were welcoming and attentive. The rooms are comfortable, cozy, and have an amazing old-school charm that you must experience.
We had our rehearsal dinner, as well as our wedding ceremony and reception at The Aerie. Our entire weekend was perfect thanks to Neil and Jodi, their team, and the stunning buildings in which we had the privilege of utilizing for our wedding.
Upon checking out, the front desk team had gathered some items that were left at the Aerie after our wedding and ensured that we got those items back. They also gave us a complimentary bottle of wine as their congratulations. Additionally, a few weeks after our wedding, we received a package in the mail with a few other items that had been found after our stay.
We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding weekend. Our stay at the hotel, our experience at the Aerie, and our interaction with the entire staff was top notch. We plan on staying at Centralia Grand Hotel in the future and we recommend Neil and Jodi and their wonderful team to anyone...
